What size is my fuel line??

It's a dumb question, I suppose, but I really don't know as mine is pretty old and stretched out. I thought it was 5/16"...but that size wanted to leak. Is the standard size 1/4"? (By the way, I have a Pingel and my old line just plugged right in and never leaked.) Mahalo, guys!:-D

The stock fuel line on my 550's is a smig larger than 1/4". 5/16" automotive fuel line (Goodyear) fits loosely on the petcock nipple without a clamp on my bike. The factory line is thin wall, unlike automotive fuel line which has to hold pressure and is thicker, and the thinner line seems to fit better on the fuel Tee on my carbs.

          5/16

Interesting.... I've now discovered that 5/16 is not necessarily 5/16. I have two different fuel lines that are supposed to be 5/16...one is slightly less..and, one is slightly more. Probably both were made in China and that's the way it goes.

I figured out that my Pingel (which is a 'spendy' high quality petcock) is labeled for a 5/16th line but my new, fancy polyurethane line still leaked. I put on a hose clamp but I've never, ever had to do that before.

I suppose it's the same but I'm not certain. In the morning, I'll cut an old one in the middle, measure it and let you know what I find. I'm pretty sure it's OEM and the middle won't be stretched out.

                5/16

(It's actually 8mm, but 5/16 (7.94mm) fuel line is close enough here in the metrically retarded Land of Amerika.)

It's common to have problems putting 1/4 inch (~ 6.3mm) fuel line on 6mm fittings. Just try a different brand of fuel line -- some are tighter than others.

The ID on the factory fuel line for my 550 is a little over 6mm.

On the parts fiche (for both the 550 and 850) it lists: "HOSE 6X10X600" which I think means 6mm ID, 10mm OD, 600mm length.

1/4" fuel line comes closer than 5/16". 5/16" will work, but it fits the nipple quite loosely and could leak, depending on the brand.

I measured a line that I'm almost positive is OEM and found exactly the same thing. (1/4 inch is 6.35MM)
