Don't think too much of Vesra

I wish I had known the Vesra Complete gasket set P/N VG352 was not really anywhere near a complete set. Frankly, it sucks, it does not even include all the flat cut gaskets, not to mention O-Rings. I'm doing a complete case split overhaul and don't want to re-use any old seals. This may explain why I was never able to find a complete listing of the contents before I purchased. They would never get away with this in the automotive world. The complete gasket kit from Suzuki may be expensive, but it probably is COMPLETE.

At any rate, if anybody is interested, here is a listing of ALL the gaskets, o-rings, seals, and copper washers needed for a complete overhaul. Yellow higlighted is what is included in the "complete" set from Vesra.

No brand gasket set would contain anything like the list you have. Generally the gasket sets contain all the common gaskets needed to do a rebuild - the emphasis here is on gaskets. Some sets contain a FEW of the common O rings. I am not aware of any that contain oil seals (other than tach drive seals).

You can look at Athena, NP, Vesrah and all the other brands and you'll see similar gasket set composition.

I'm not disputing it wouldn't be nice to get all the parts you mention, but you'd certainly be paying a heck of a lot more for all those parts...

Thanks for the reply Jeff. BTW I absolutely love Z1 enterprises and buy there whenever I can because the service is so good, really! And I'm not knocking the sellers of the kits, either.

I would not expect to get seals and molded parts, but cut gaskets and o-rings should be included. I'm used to automotive gasket sets I guess.

I think we would all like to get better gasket sets... the comprehensiveness of sets varies a lot from kit to kit - really no consistancy as to what's in a set.

in defense on the aftermarket gasket makers, Suzuki doesn't help - just look through their fiche and you find so much ambiguity. It's very difficult to interpret what fits what sometimes as the fiche cover multiple years or changes across models within a model year.

The Vesrah kits are only a starting point -- for what they contain, they do save you a lot of money over the Suzuki bits.

FWIW, I think the Vesrah gaskets are better quality than the delicate cardboard and paper gaskets you get from Suzuki.

But it still bugs me a bit that they are billed as "everything you need" or "complete".

Automotive kits generally do contain every last seal, o-ring, gasket, and plug you need, but then again they probably sell 1,000 times as many for each engine model.

However, I don't know what's included in the Suzuki set, either.

If I might chime in here; a complete engine rebuild gasket set for my car (97 LT1) lists for $220 plus shipping (aftermarket brand). Quite a bit more than the Vesrah kit for any of my bikes, and the parts count is much lower. But I agree, it is complete, except for freeze plugs.
You don't realize how many gaskets and orings are in a bike engine until you tear it totally apart and count them.
