    cam journals

when im reinstalling my cams, should i just put motor oil all over the cam journals and bearings? nothing special or should i get that assembly lube stuff.

If you are going to put motor back in service shortly, motor oil will be fine. Others have warned that too much assembly lube with moly would be detrimental to clutch operation. I don't know, manuals say use assembly lube. I personally would oil on reinstall, check valve clearances and then spin motor over with starter (sparkplugs out) until I had oil coming up into head before buttoning up valve covers. That way you are sure that sufficient oil is there during that first cold start.

I've heard that using motor oil is fine, especially if you are re-installing original pieces. Any new pieces should have assembly lube, that's my understanding.

I used assembly lube with zero problems, just because I felt better about it, but as above post says, not too much.

I have assembled and rebuilt engines more than a few times over the years, and only used clean motor oil.

Yup, clean motor oil is fine.
