Fuel supply hose question

When the Suzuki Gs were new was the hose a molded one or did it have some sort of spring up by the petcock? If the hose is to long it kinks if I cut it just the right length it is very hard to get it connected and still wants to kink what do most bikes have to make sure fuel flow is not restricted?

Buy a 5/16 fuel line from an auto part store. Cut it to length so you can put it on with the tank slightly tilted and ride. Use a hose clamp.

oem fuel line would typically have a spring-type circlip/clamp on it to keep it in place and also a coil-like protection around the hose

I like using the OE fuel hose. It's 7mm ID and stretches nicely over the petcock nipple - no need for a clamp. If you cut the hose to proper length, like Chef states, it won't kink.

Where does one get the nice soft black rubber hose that came on these bikes anyway. All I can find locally is either the automotive stuff that is way to thick or the clear plastic stuff that will no doubt go hard. I'm also looking for the OEM style hose for the float bowls drains and vents. I've still got the original on mine and it's actually still nice and flexible and appears in good shape but there is a time (probably ten years ago) when it should just be changed.

Order it from Suzuki. The hoses are right there on the fiche with all the other parts. They usually send way more than you need, and you cut it to fit.

Ordered some fuel hose for my 850 and they sent about three feet (1 meter) worth!

For what it's worth, I use the 5/16" fuel line from the local napa store - works great & I think it actually lets more fuel flow than the OEM line when using an in-line fuel filter.

Napa line - 5/16" = 8mm
OEM line = 7mm

Using automotive line is fine but a clamp is recommended since the petcock nipple is 8mm thus there will not be much interference to seal the connection.

A friend of mine gave me some 7mm fuel line he had been using on his VW. It is so much less trouble than fooling around with clamps every time the tank comes on and off, which is almost a daily affair for me. I'd order some if your bike requires regular tinkering.

Yeah, I checked the fiches before and anything in the 4.5mm hose for the 4 cylinder GSs comes up "no longer available" and anything else crosses to the vent tubes which are too short. I know the hose is the 4.5mm but what part number should I use to get enough for the 4 float bowl drains.

the fuel flow depends on the size of the opening at the petcock, which is less than 7mm, so the bigger diameter line doesnt help in that regard

For the float bown drains on the VM carbs. It doesn't last maybe 6 months but it is cheap! Aquarium hose & you can get different colors 25 ft for $3-4

Some fuel line is clear, and will last as long as the black stuff. But you pay more for it.
