Depends on year and application. Best to cross reference part numbers from an OE parts source site like Alpha Sports. http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm

      alternator

HI,IVE just purchased a 81'Katana 750 with an79 1000gs motor.I have not actually seen the bike, its in hobart and im in phillip island,Victoria. The owner tells me that the flattery is bat and that it wont hold a charge.Ihave to assume the worst and turn up,to ride her home, with what ever is needed.Ihave an 80'GSX 750 as a donor for armature,BUT WILL IT FIT??????

I am under the impression that the rotors and stators on the 1000 are a bit larger than the 750. To compound the problem, you say that the bike has a '79 1000 engine and your potential donor is an '80 750. The GS series lost the kickstarter in '80, so they increased the output of the stator by switching from a 12-pole design to an 18-pole design. If you switch the stator, you also have to switch the rotor to match. The rotor has to have the correct number of magnets to match the poles on the stator.

.Back to Nessism's speculation ... probably not.

Are you sure that it isn't the battery that is at fault?

Don't know how far it is from Phillip island to hobart, but you can go a long way on a fully charged battery. If the battery in the bike won't hold a charge, you are going to need one anyhow. Get a new battery, charge it fully & go put it in the bike, take the headlight fuse out, & ride it home. Should be good for 300 or 400 mi, even if the charging system isn't working at all. Hopefully it's only the battery. Good luck

It's probably more than a battery, most likely the RR has failed. I can hook you up with a Honda RR once you get it home that will outlive the OEM RR. THe Stator and rotor replacement would be a big job, gaskets special tools and all that, not something you could do in a parking lot.

I would look into carrying it home. Rent a truck or a van, better than getting stuck or making a problem worse.

Not quit true, the 1000 never had a kick starter, even in 1977.

                        stator

luv yu guys. Its about a 400 klik ride, rpillips, and i have not seen the bike[ebay ].So i can not be sure what the problem is but for sure i will turn up with my own [working]RR.And sorry but to change rotor /stator is not a big job. No,i will ride her home, come on.Shame about the kickstart,i would love one on every thing, every thing!!!!The flitch' on mr motorcycle suggest that the rotor frem one is different from the other but that the crankshaft taper and fitting is the same. This still depends on the way that the stator is located by the casing.Dont ya love this sh.....Ta yall
