Yes, this. Very, very, very common. And very cheap and easy to fix, too.
Unless they've met you, I think a lot of people don't realize your bike is one of the chain-drive 16V engines -- they may assume that your bike is a shaftie. Perhaps you might want to clarify this in your sig.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
