RTV my bowls?

Hi,
My friend recommended to me that I put a thin coat of oil/gas resistant RTV on the perimeter of my old worn bowl gaskets, instead of replacing them. he has done this on his KZ and seems to have no troubles resulting. But I'm still hesitant. What do you guys think?

That was my fear. But he has several hundred miles on his RTV carbs and it seems to be running well. Of course it could be a ticking time bomb. As a person who is dicking around with a 28 year old 450, I'm less than enthusiastic about spending unnecessarily. Either way, thanks for your words. I think I'm gonna skip the RTV.

Oh one more thing, I would use the gas resistant rtv, and yes the word "resistant" is no synonimous with "proof."

Do yourself a favor and NOT use it.

Yes it may hold for a short while but glue is a poor replacement for a gasket. If you can run an Exacto knife, do yourself another favor and go to the parts store and pick up some gasket material. Then the next time you need a gasket...you'll already know how to make one and have the proper material to make it from.

I would use this over RTV any day.

I've made all kinds of gaskets for my carbs, engine, etc. Using a piece of tubing as a punch makes nice holes (sharpen the edge first).
