    Carbtune help please!

Okay folks, have had the bike for two years now and here is a list of fixes/upgrades:

    New Petcock
    New Tires
    New Carb Boot O-Rings

Maintenance I have done in the past few weeks:

Carb disassemble and DIP with New Robert Barr O-Rings
    Valve's Adjusted
    New exhaust Gaskets
    Clean and Re-Oil Air Filter
New Progressive fork springs and spacer
    New MIDI rear shocks
    Oil Change and Filter W/O-Ring
    New Turn Signals
    Carbs Bench Sync'd

Now here is the issue i'm having....

Everything is back together running and ideling. If you snap the throttle it bogs and wants to die, catches and revs fine after that. I figure carb sync (from doing searches). My carbtune came in last week and i got the flu. So....yesterday i try and sync my carbs. Carbtune all hooked up engine warm and ideling......no readings on the Carbtune......None.....What am i doing wrong? HELP!!?!?!?!?!?!?

Set your idle at about 2000-2200 RPM to sync. After you are finished adjusting your carbs, turn the idle back down to factory specs.
Also sounds like you have some jetting issues as well.

Check your pilot jets (make sure they are clean) and that circuit as that takes care of the roll off into the main power range.

you can hang the morgan carbtune upside down to get a better reading on it. I have only balanced two 4-stroke snowmobiles with it hanging with the hoses on top, all the other times it hangs with the hoses on the bottom.

Did you put the restricter clear tubes into the black tubes that came with the kit?

Hang it on the left handle bar so when you adjust it you can see the readings clearly.

Anybody else try a sync on a 650? Did you have to hang it upside down?

The pilot jet plug on carb one was REALLY loose when i installed it, i haven't pulled the carbs again since i tried syncing. If it fell out could this be the problem?

Thanks for all the help guys, i'll get this figured out yet....

              Sync

If you've got it hooked up correctly, I can't imagine how it's possible that you get no readings. In any case, I don't think the problem you're having with your engine has anything to do with the carbs being out of sync (even though they probably are).

Check & make sure there is vaccum from each line feeding the Carbtune - pull the line off each port & place your finger over it. You should feel suction. Start at the vaccum ports on each intake boot & work your way back to the Carbtune.

Just a random thought - the intake boots with the vaccum ports are on the "engine" side of the carbs, right??

Perhaps the little hole through the clear restrictors are clogged or missing??

                good luck

Also, pull the vaccum line off the petcock & plug it - run the petcock on PRI if using the bike tank for fuel.

Does the steel rods move freely if you hold the unit upside down and shake it?

I tried my Carbtune for the first time last week, loved it. Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asM3kQWPmLM

I just synced a GS650 last week with a Carbtune, and it worked perfectly normally.

Something must be wrong with the way the Carbtune is set up or connected.

Also, please keep in mind that it needs to be pretty close to vertical. Sometimes the rods can get hung up if it's hanging at much of an angle.

Start by sucking on the hoses to the Carbtune....Does it respond then?

When I got my carbtune delivered, first time using it, #3 rod did not move but the other three worked ok. Turned out just that rod on #3 was stuck in the base of the unit and could not move. I assumed it got that way through shipping but who knows. Was a right bugger to get loose anyway.

Just check they are all free to move like has been suggested already.
