I have my carbs from a GS 1000 apart right now and I don't see anything like that in the parts I have.

The ONLY thing I can think it MIGHT be is maybe the guide for the idle adjust thumb screw?? But I dont think so....Maybe an old piece of fuel line or something??? Ive done a set of 550 carbs, and many sets of GS carbs and i cant recall EVER seeing anything like that...I mean it KINDA looks like an emulsion tube, but its obviously not.. weird..

That looks like the stud that anchors one end of the throttle spring.

Ohhh that could be Ed...I saw that he said they were VM550 carbs..never messed with those, but the 750 VM carbs dont have one like that that I recall.

Yup thats what it is! Thanks!

Classic moment when everything was almost put back together and I looked down and realized I had a significant looking extra piece. The odd thing is that I couldn't find it on any of the part lists or anything.

Yer pretty awesome Ed! The only VMs ive ever played with are 26s and 28s...neither of which are assembled like that, as the throttle control comes off the center instead of offset to one side like that. VERY good eye man

I win the award for the guy that spends the most time in the garage wrenching award. Not sure that's a good thing though...

Found another photo showing where that stud fits into the carb body in case anyone cares.
