Yes, you'll find quiet a few of those. Don't worry about it .

Anyhow. How are you getting on with the project?

Not too well right now. Have a couple of wiring harness on the way thanks to a furum member. One from a 80 and one from a 82.
Also talked to my bro-n-law who used to work on these things back in the day to lend a hand cause it really IS kicking my butt. He'll be here next weekend. Gonna take a bit of a break till then.

Trying to figure out a way to have a harness diagram made on a posterboard to hang on the garage wall. Im not kidding.

As you can prolly tell this is my first bike project. Worked on many cars/trucks in the past but I've always managed to avoid wiring, I hate it.

Worked on this one for 4 years. Sold it and bought a Harley. Got tired of cars taking up room in the garage, lol..

Don't over complicate the wiring. My GS550 had a decomposing harness and rather than try to repair it I simply cut all the necessary plugs off and built my own harness. There are schematics available here. Down load of of the schem's and set down and study it.

Take the wiring diagram down to a Kinko's type place and have them enlarge it for you on a plotter. Shouldn't be too expensive.

                    alrighty then...

It runs again, but....LOL. Ya knew that was coming huh?

At first when I fired it up it ran, just ok but at least it was hitting on all four. I even took it for a little ride through the hood but couldnt get it above about 4-5k but I was ok with that for starters.
Now, nope. Seems like it has a dead skip in at least the number four cylinder.
All plugs fire. New wires and plugs made no difference. Compression's good. At idle I can disconect leads to the left coil and it changes nothing. Coils have juice with ignition on, about 12 volts.
It wont rev above choked idle. Thats the electrical side of the story. NOw for the fuel side..

New gas, petcock is good, new intake o-rings, airbox is a complete shambles. Intake boots on air box are a complete mess. Two of em have some type of redneck repair job with what looks to be red sylicone, Ya I know.. Tried the pods and the bike wont even start.

Where should I go from here? I want to run pods so I know a DJ kit is in the future but I want to make sure it will at least fire on all four before I drop any more coin into it.
Would bad carbs and or intake make it seem to missfire? When I say missfire I mean dead skip. What gets me is it ran decent, or at least ok at first.

                    Any suggestions, comment?

Just the usual ones ---- check valve clearances and how long has it set? Probably could benefit from carb dipping.

When you say "dipping", do ya mean a rebuild?

Another question for the masses. Do the coils require grounding?

Figured it out!!!! (why do I feel like Im talking to myself?)

At any rate, all cylinders are firing. NOw its on to the carb rebuild, or dip or cleaning or whatever.
                                The carbs need "redid"!

The way I see it, if I can "redid" old Chevy Quadrajets with great success I can do these little things.

Man! Its a good thing my Harley runs good!
