    Petcock secret code

New petcock from Z1 and it operates just like the old one.
    Only on prime.

Thought for a second that my flaot bowls we set too low but I can start it up on prime, set it to run and after a block or so puttering around the hood it begins to sputter. Turn it back to prime and its fine.
    Go figure..
    Is there something Im missing?

i dunno mine has been doing the same thing, i havent taken it apart to clean it yet, i have a inline filter in mine right after the valve, and you can see the fuel shooting into it, it should be full not limited, even with a full tank it does it the valve it really hard to turn as well , so i think its needing cleaned from corrosion, and a new diaphram possibly
it doesnt run right without fuel ,and my slides are crap as well
also the way the factory routed the fuel line is crap,it gets pinched by the carbs check for flow there as well

Do you have a good strong vacuum going to the small port on the petcock?

Should I adjust the valves? LMAO, kidding..

The bike runs great with rebuilt carbs and DJ stage 111
The petcock is new. Go figure.

If it does not flow any fuel with a good vacuum applied, it must be a bad one from stock?

Wait a minute, is there enough gas in the tank?
PRI goes to the bottom, ON is a few inches up?

Good call... I've not been filling it too much at a time do to often tank removal.
Whatcha think, a gallon or so?

How much fuel is in the tank when ya hit reserve? Cause it wont run there either.

The reserve should be right down to the bottom. I think you got a bad one
Easy way to test it though. Fuel should flow if vacuum to the vacuum port of the petcock. You can test this off the bike easily Be kind of interesting to know as I am thinking of getting one as well

How long is your fuel line? I had the same problem. Picked up a new petcock from Z1,and the same thing. The po had a long fuel line installed that swooped down by the starter, and back up. It would run ok on prime, and die out when switched to "on". I cut the line shorter, ditched the crappy fuel filter (yes my tank is spotless inside), turned the fuel inlet nipple on the carb up toward the tank and routed the line directly to the carbs. Problem solved.. Its worth a look.

I'll disconect the fuel line and see if it shoots fuel from the petcock.
Seems like I did that with the old one and it worked, cant remember..

The vacuum line is hooked up to the 3rd one? I had that problem when I first got my bike, it would only work on pri. The po had it hooked up to the 4th carb and since this is my first bike I didnt know that until I joined this forum.
