GS1000 Cylinder Head Rubber Dampers

Here shot that shows some dampers on the top fins, they're mounted at the top of the fins about mid way between them. If you look real close behind plug #3 you'll see there are some there also. I'm missing some but in the next couple days if you want I could see if I can get a better shot of the ones I've got left. I'm missing some also but there are small corrosion marks where they used to be.

I'll be in the garage again later, will try to get a pic of what I have left.

Alright... I give... what the heck are they even for? I found some stuck in my head, I assumed they were supposed to go there but I can't fathom why. Vibration of the fins snap them off or something?Comment

Just took a look at my Skunk... I am missing quite a few but there are definitely 9 possible slots per side. 5 at the back & 4 at the front. That would seem to line up with what you're saying. On mine they are fitted about 5mm below the top & about 8mm back.
Unless your big port head is a bit different & only has 8 slots???1980 GS1000G - Sold

Supposedly... it's to stop harmonic resonance from vibrating the fins and making noise. mine were old and dried out. I threw them away. Making a bike look museum perfect is the only reason I can think of to replace them.Comment

Have to admit that I?ve struggled at times deciding where to draw the line between performing a ?correct? restoration and wasting money/effort on silly details. I don?t mind spending $31 on something that?s worthwhile but honestly, these plugs definitely blur the line, particularly since they don?t match the originals, and if I had to do it again I wouldn?t have bought them.Ed

If I was restoring an S to pristine condition, I'd probably do it too.Have to admit that I?ve struggled at times deciding where to draw the line between performing a ?correct? restoration and wasting money/effort on silly details. This is on a '79 with 3,800 miles on it. If any are missing I don't think I want to replace them if they go missing that fast.. http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlinkComment
