Front set options for 81 GS550LX?

Looking to make the gs550lx more "street" friendly so I'm looking to swap front ends.

I understand that the Suzuki GS550LX series has a fork tube of 35mm and quite a list of forks of the same size to boot as well.

What I'm asking here is if anyone has had any experience with swapping the front set out for a much more modern "beefier" and better solution that hopefully has dual brakes as well.

I'm still new to the game but I'm hoping someone with some experience or expertise could comment on such so that I won't compromise the OEM rack and trail specs.

On a side note; Lets say I purchased a 4-1 V&H system for a 85 gs700. Since the headers don't line up; whats the chances of me getting a 550 4-1 header and being able to fit the muffler end on? SO far I haven't much luck but I am considering having someone cut and reweld the gs700 headers onto the 550.

    Thanks!

The 550 forks are shorter than the 750 SO length will be the determining factor for what you use.

Not sure, but wouldn't an over weight thirty year old bike with a floppy frame and a twenty year old front suspension handle funny?

Life is too short to ride an L.

I guess this isn't going to go anywhere then.

        Sorry for the stupid question

Get yourself a teflon/stainless brake line, rebuild the master and caliper, and install some new pads and your 550 will stop with the best of them.

Many people here have swapped suspension and brakes. Check the performance section.
