Will a smaller gs tank fit?

The tank on my 80 GS850g has a huge tank 5+ gallons, it looks to big for the project. Is there a GS tank from another model that will fit around 3 gallons? I would like to keep the gas gauge.

Look for a tank off an "L" model, '81 or older.
About 3.4 gallons, but not sure about the gas gauge if it's a smaller bike.
The 850s and 750s had gauges, not sure about 650s.

By the way, lots of guys with the "L" bikes would kill to have that 5-gallon tank.

The GL and G tanks do not interchange.

But I suppose with a welder and a big enough hammer, anything is possible.

+1 on that, wish they had a bigger tank available.

True enough, but mentioned it was a "project", so I figured he already had them dusted off and warmed up.
