Seems like they are worth hanging on to. Now I just need to get the bike to go with.
Tell me about smoothbores please

Wait a minute.. You've got a set of 29 smoothies, and no bike??
You should be fined by the UJM Police, forced to send those carbs to my home, and buy a GS!
Priorities, priorities...

No, I have a set of 33 smoothies and no bike to put them on.
I do have a totally stock 700es, though I've had these carbs for way longer than that.
I've just been using them as a decoration. They really tie the decor in my living room together.
I got curious about them when VMs were mentioned a few times on here.Comment

Mmmmm So keep what you have a s u be kicking ureself down the track
33's are good for a average of 10hp and will run on a almost standard 1100. Just a pipe and GOOD airfilter should be a nice ride. 3 yrs ago a set of 29's got sold for $700 au here so mine are staying where they are.Comment

The 33s are actually about the best smoothbores you can put on a stock motor with only a pipe 1100 or 1150. The throttle response & bottom end are good. The midrange is great, & the top end is AWESOME! The 33s are worth about 300-400 bucks on average & if in REALLY nice shape, as in NEW, 450. Find an ES & have a nice pair of bikes. I'm guessing your 700 is blue & white? My first ever NEW bike was a blue & white 700ES. The 33s will need about a 125 main jet with the needle one clip lean from the middle to start with to get you close with just a pipe & a set of K&Ns. Good luck & if you ever want to sell the 33s I got first dibs cause no one else called dibs! LOL!!! Ray.Comment

not a biker
at the drags
in 1985 i took my 81 gs1100 to the drag races, i had 2 sets of carbs both using pods. most of the time i had 33 smooth bores on the bike. a friend gave me his CVs off his 84 gs1150. i did my own jetting and needles so i might have been off BUT with the CVs it ran 114 mph .i re installed the 33s and ran 122 mph. maybe the jetting could have been better ? on the CVs but on the street the bike ran smooth and responsive.
the bike was stock except for a V&H pipeComment

Just wondering. What determines if it is a smoothbore? I have two sets of 29s on my desk at work waiting for me to do something with. One set is off my KZ1000 Shaft drive Kaw and the other I got free when a friend cleaned his garage. They look the same as the examples above except the bowls are a bit different, with a nipple in the middle with a drain plug angled off to the side. I'm pretty sure they are just standard KZ carbs.Comment

do both pairs measure 29mm at the rear throat area?
i look for the large removable plug on the bowls for changing main jets.
the 29mm measurement and the large bowl plugs are a dead give a way for me.
im sure theres number maybe..
maybe some (old ) timer may jump in and let us know.

It measures 29mm id on the block side at the opening. Also, the big removable plug is what mine doesn't have. Mine have a nipple with hose and a small removable drain plug off to the side at an angle. I'll post a pic later, maybe someone will know. Maybe I will go to the KZ rider site, I lurk there sometimes (not nearly as cool as this place).Comment

OK, so maybe it measures 28mm. I checked out Z1s carb id page http://www.z1enterprises.com/referen...arb-guide.aspx
and also had the brilliant idea to look at the specs in my Clymers manual.
28mm smoothbore.
Thanks.Comment

tucker what you have is 28mm mechanical carbs not smoothbores.
round slide mikuni smoothbores come in odd number sizes..29/31/33/ ect..
if yours are 28mm then i will guess that they are from a kawi of a certain year and model.Comment
