Fork Caps

Going to try under these threads to see if someone new might see it.

Has anyone ever replaced the Fork Caps (The ones with the built in valve) on a GS850 with just plane flat caps? I am going to be going to a lower handlebar and there is barely enough clearance with the stock ones. I think I heard someone mention harley fork caps somewhere, but that might have been for a friends bike?

Any help would be appreciated.

Caps without the valves are available, as are little bolts to plug the holes.

Going to clip-ons would most likely be an easier option. You could use a raised clipon style set of bars to give the same impression and not have to worry about the clearance.

I really don't want clip-ons. I know it shouldn't matter, but it's a prefrence, and I really don't like the look of those valves.

Oh, and the bar will probably be $30, where the clip-ons will be much more (and yes I know the cost of the caps need to be added on, still hopefully cheaper)

Those valves are not there for looks, I hope you have some aftermarket springs in there or that front end will be VERY soft and saggy.

Might want to rethink about going with progressives on the forks. Check out Sonic springs. I just bought a pair for my bike and like them. SonicSprings.com

I haven't used Progressive front springs for some time. Sonic is a great choice. (Race-Tech, too).

Adding to the problem is that modern forks actually have 2 spring mediums, the steel coil and the air trapped inside.

This should still hold true if I just cap it and get rid of the valve.

The '83 GS850G didn't have the air valves at the top (there's one air valve and a crossover air tube system in the lower triple).

I'm not saying that the '83 caps will definitely 100% work in '82 forks, but it's very, very likely.
