Putting an oil cooler on GS1100 motor (actually '82 Kat 1000 motor). Motor is plumbed like a gs1150 connections coming out of front of cases. . Do I need a gs1150 oil filter cover as well? I seem to remember that is the case. What is the result if 1150 cover is not used?

You need something to block the oil port under the right side cover ( left side looking at the front of the engine) . By blocking you force oil to go out the right side banjo to get to the cooler. Either a 1150 cooler or a plug in the right side port. -

The plug is by far the cheaper method as 1150 cover prices have gone through the roof. The plug must have a hole in the center to allow a portion of the oil to flow through the oil galley.Comment

For those that just used a plug, what did you use? Is it something improvised or a specific piece?Comment

I would use some sort of synthetic rubber that is petroleum resistant, such as nitrile. For this I suggest Google is your friend.Comment
