        OK, just:
        Installed new front sprocket
        installed carbs
        installed valve cover

        Getting there.

            Well, crap.

One of the collars on my header was loose, so I took it to a shop to get it welded. The owner is a colleage's husband, and we're friendly. So I picked it up and gave him $10 for the little spot weld.

I get it home and see that the collar isn't lined up with the pipe. So I start to file the collar so it's at least flush with the pipe, and the collar starts moving!
            Darn weld didn't hold.

So now I've got to take it back and get him to turn up the heat a bit.

              Mounted rear wheel
              Installed new front sprocket
              charged and installed battery

              FYI:
When converting to a 530 chain.
              a 47 and 17 tooth sprocket you will need a 114 link chain. NOT a 116.

              Still need to:
              change oil
              paint and intstall exhaust
              pick up fuel.

Man, It snowed 2-3 inches here yesterday. It's really not a rush.

Anyway, as soon as I get my exhaust header back I'll fire her up.
When I put the battery in I tested out my new brake MC. The lights work SO sweet now. Immediate.

Then I cranked on her a bit. Everything sounds like it should.
                  You may begin the countdown.

                    Good news!
                    It runs!

Bad news: I should've replaced the oil filter O-ring when I changed the oil. Leaking like a "baby alive":? As soon as the oil got warm out it came.

                      HOLEEEE CRAP!!!:shock::shock:

I insured the bike today. I fixed the oil leak, lightened up the headers and went for a scoot with a buddy. Everything felt good. New cables sliding in their sleeves, new mirrors so cool and stylish (Napoleon bar ends), new chain and sprokets operating noislessly, just a putting down to the gas station to fill 'er up.

We rode a quick 13km to a restaurant. Oh, my Lord! I'm not sure what I did. Maybe it was the carb fiddling, maybe I finally got the jetting right. I don't know, but this old beast has NEVER had this much power!!!:-D

It burns out off the line easy. A quick throttle blip lifts the front wheel. My buddy was floored. He said "You never used to be able to pull away from me like that!" This thing is a beast!!!

As to the head gasket, rubber O sealy thingy: it's not leaking. Must be OK. I know she's getting oil because a) it didn't blow up, and 2) the valve cover is leaking. Less now. Can I expect it to lessen as it swells a bit?
