How fast is is your old GS?

Don't think I'll ever bother finding out how fast my 78 1000C will go - 100 mph once

my frankenbike 1100 - ditto
my 250S1 -70mph is all I dare
1200 bandit - taken it to a very easy 130 recently

fastest "pure GS " ever would be many years ago on a yoshi big bore, hairy cammed 79 GS1000 - off the clock at a guesstimated 150pmh

fastest hybrid - big block GSXR motor in an 1100 katana - again off the clock but buddy on gsxr1000 was showing 172 mph

fastest ever - my modified Hayabusa - radar trapped 194 mph (several times) and off the clock on a particularly suitable stretch of autobahn ..... by this time I'd calibrated the clock with gps due to gearing changes so I'd guess about 205mph

ahhhhhh the good old days ....... I'm far more relaxed now (sorta)

My stock 86 GSXR750 would go 155 mph indicated all day. Spent many miles in the Rio Grande going these speeds and the bike just ate it up. I should have kept that bike...

Holy cow. All day at 150 you'd go from the Rio Grande to the Mississippi!

Yeah, that sounds about right. Back in the day a buddy and I always did battle on the weekends, my '85 FZ750 and his '85 GSXR750. We didn't have GPS then and were at 3,000ft. but mine would indicate on a good day a tad over 240kph (150mph not counting speedo error) and we'd be even for top speed except he'd be able to draft pass me and if I tried drafting pass him I could get just ahead of his front tire and then have to tuck in. Never asked him what his speedo said, didn't matter we were just out having fun. Fun days for sure. Then he kicked it up notch or 2 with his FZR1000.

I agree. I think it would redline at 145 mph. After a lot of time at 145, when slowed down to 55, it felt like I could get off and walk faster that the bike was going...

There are a lot of long, straight, roads in the area and I bet if you put them all together they might reach to Mississippi.

Now you're having me digging through my old time slips... Elapsed time of 9.621@ 133.53 miles per hour. At Norwalk Raceway Park. June 9th 1991 That's not to bad for a weekend bracket racer. I'd love to get back on the track again. I still have the motorcycle, but it needs a lot of work, money and dedication. Mostly money. Jingle bells jingle bells jingle all the way... ☺

I know what you mean. A friend and I spent 20minutes at 150+ on our FZ1s crossing a reservation in New Mexico back in 2004 on our way to Durango.

Durango was your destination? What did you do to deserve that?

Durango is a FANTASTIC destination. One of the coolest bike friendly towns around, with great microbreweries and an excellent college town feel. I love it. We went on to Telluride a couple days later, and the roads were great, but there is something I really enjoy about certain places, and Durango has it.

Test specs show the 1150 at 141 MPH top speed. So I doubt a 750 will go that fast. I've had mine up to 135 indicated

The next generation 750s from your 1150 were actually very fast for their time. There are tests out there showing the FZ750 in particular having sub 11 second quarter mile times and top speeds around 150 mph. The Suzukis were pretty much the same. The tests could be a little.optimistic, but not a lot.
