How fast is is your old GS?

The next generation 750s from your 1150 were actually very fast for their time. There are tests out there showing the FZ750 in particular having sub 11 second quarter mile times and top speeds around 150 mph. The Suzukis were pretty much the same. The tests could be a little.optimistic, but not a lot.

The GSXRs also had better aerodynamics.

Had it up to about 65 mph on the trailer behind my old 12 valve dodge when bringing it home. If I ever get it road worthy I might beat that by at least 20 or so mph.

Since i got the cluster ive only done 50, as its the highest speed limit in town. Gps shows my speedo to read 3mph fast

I believe the chain drive had 6 but my shafty has 5

I think they were both 5 speeds.

Only GS bikes with 6 speeds were the 550 and under. 650 and up were all 5 speeds.

With all that torque they didn't need 6 speeds.

I sometimes find myself trying to shift into sixth gear when riding my 1000e. I'm thinking about changing the gear ratio when I order new chain and sprockets this spring.

I wish mine had a 6th gear for long highway rides. There are certain engine rpms that between the sound of the exhaust and the sounds from the carbs (another reason to keep your stock airbox if you have it) resonate inside my helmet and can really get bothersome after awhile. I've considered wearing earplugs but them Im afraid I wouldn't hear car horns and emergency vehicles.

The same with my 850. I have the air box but the fairing and engine noise at 4k rpms in 5th gear, which is about 50mph, make one heck of a racket! The sweet spot is about 5500- 6k rps and 75-80 mph, soooo smoooooth! Sound reverberates off of the windjammer I'm sure. Ear plugs are a regular thing on highway rides for me. I can still hear other sounds and the ride is more enjoyable. If I forgot them then a piece of tissue stuffed in the ear canal works, just not as comfortable. The main thing I'm trying to block out is the wind noise.
