A lot of people paint the headers black and shine up the muffler as best as possible.

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after. -
Guys, these pipes are rusted into 3 pieces! These were originaly a 2 piece system. They are very far beyond repair. Better to start with some bare tubing and a bender!

Been making a little progress in the last couple of weeks. Started the teardown and have been cleaning and refurbishing parts as I remove them. All the rubber parts get the "wintergreen" treatment and any steel parts with rust or corrosion is sandblasted and the part is repainted.
Got all the painted parts off and rubbed out with compound and waxed. Refurbed the headlight, front master cylinder, rear fenders, taillight, ignition, gauge cluster, airbox, electrical plate, horns and a few other small items.
Running out of room in the garage so I started bringing them inside!

LOL! That's another benefit of being single.
That's a spare bedroom with the parts on the bed. The girlfriend doesn't live here, so she can only say so much!
Years ago, many, many years ago, I actually had a complete 1978 GS750E in a spare bedroom at another house over the winter!Ron

Many years ago, I had a nice apartment, with a back room that was perfect for rebuilding engines. Then I got a girlfriend, she morphed into my wife. We purchased a house, and she made me make a barn. I do still have a small room with lots of to0ls and stuff in it. I do electronic repair. She reminds me I have a barn every day, for over 20 years now.

Finally got the engine out of the frame!
The frame will be heading to the sandblasters and powdercoaters next week.
Still have to rebuild the forks, clean up the engine, clean the carbs and do a lot of zinc plating and black oxide coating before I even think about assembly.
Oh well, it is about 3 months until warm weather!Ron

Got the frame home from the powdercoater today. Spent a couple hours cleaning up all the threaded holes and sticking the engine back in the frame.

Decided to install the swingarm, shocks, rear tire and wheel and the rear brake since it was early!
Still waiting on a black oxide coating kit, so some of the bolts will have to be removed and coated when it gets here!
Stainless brake lines are due on Friday!Ron
