I am almost finished restoring my 82 GS1100E from the frame up but can't identify this part.
Can anyone tell me where this foam block was located? I'm 95% sure it was in there somewhere.??

I would guess that someone fitted a smaller battery and needed to jam that in there. The battery is very large and just slots in, so if somebody put in a smaller one they'd need to shim it.

Thanks guys. I've had the bike since 97 with the same size battery, don't think it goes there. It was glued to something. Not the swing arm stop, that is accounted for.

That was a thought as well. My Norton uses foam under the tank from stock. You can still buy the kit. Which I did. At the back, by the seat it uses a big rubber band.

Pull up the parts fiche and look at chassis drawings see if you can find it there if you think it's OEM.

i made pdfs of all the kat part fiche's so i could use them to help me remember where all the parts went when i did my restoration.

Can't find it on the niche. I may be imagining that it's off of this bike. I took it apart 13 years ago.

I've restored a goodly number of GS's, from 450, 550, 750, 850, 1000, and I've never seen a block of foam like shown. I don't think it was installed at the factory.

Anybody know what this part might be? It doesnt ring a bell, but it ended up in my bike hardware pile.

Spark plug holder. Screws into the plug cap The longer caps on 2 and 3 have a spring that goes in then the end is put in. 1 and 4 do not have springs

Thankfully, it must have come off of one I replaced.

I should also add the spring goes in THEN the resistor and then the holder. Take resistors out and cut a 1/8 piece of copper or steel rod and do away with the resistors.
