A skunk in the works

Didn't rain and wasn't to humid today so I took the chance to paint the engine.Paint is Plasti-Kote 207 Aluminium Engine Enamel.A tad brighter than stock but 10X better than the old paint.Oh yes:


A couple of preview shots.Cleared the covers,toned them down a bit.

Thanks guys and yes GK I'm putting new plugs inRemembered I have to go though the harness this week and clean and grease the connectors.Next weekend the motor gets into the frame,weather willingThen I can start getting bits back together.Looking forward to that

Getting it dirty is the fun bit Pete.Waiting on my gaskets from our friend Ashley at Boulevard.Then I get to check the valve lash.Hoping I have no shims to change,never done it and I'm just a bit worried about it.

Yes very true Greg... but even more fun is washing it after getting it dirty... because then you go get it dirty again... hahaha

Don't stress about valve clearance, it is incredibly simple to do. Just follow the manual, use good feeler gauges, and you can't go wrong.

I'd never done anything like that before my engine rebuild, and I've now done the initial check, the second check after the first 15 minute run, and the third check at the 1000km mark. Next one should be at 6000km's I reckon

Your putting me to shame Greg with how fast your getting things done on yours, at this rate you'll be riding by March!! Don't worry about shimming, super easy, I could give you a hand if you want. As well I've got a pretty decent stock of shims now so you could just pull and replace form there. I've always done the zip tie method but I got an actual shim tool with one of the bikes last year and it worked great, I'm sold on it now.

Actually, it seems that quite a few of the folks are charging right along. I'm feeling quite ashamed of myself. I'm almost done with the boss' chores so I might be able to get started soon. Project Kat to get finished and then on to project 550. I think with the 550 I'm going to try and find a rolling bike and use this one for parts, there's just too many little bits and ****s missing.

As I haven't gotten in much riding over the last 2 seasons due to the health, I might just pass on wrenching this year and try and get in more seat time. Then again wrenching is relaxing too and its very rewarding to see something come together from a pile of parts. so who knows.

Anyho, I'm enjoying this. Hope all is well with the missus. all the best to you both and keep 'em coming.

More than happy to have some help the first time round.I'm not that worried in one way.Just never having done it hoping I don't mess up stuff.March is not very likely,the big ticket items of tires and chain are going to slow thing up.Got quite a bit to do before I need them though.

Thanks I'm enjoying it to.Want this done this year.Then start in on the CB750F project next winter.Speaking of that a friend PMed me a Vancouver Craigslist ad for a 82 CB750F,almost a complete bike for $75.Killer is he has no way to get it to his place and going over myself is not an option.Grrrrr....
