Just saw your entry 2 pages ago about catching the apple of your eye in your arms, nice job! The fact she's a wrencher is good too. I won't call her a spanner as it is a synonym for being a bit of a dick and I'm surprised Pete skimmed over that.

I don't know about that... I could upload a picture but will I?Originally posted by psyguy View PostI was looking forward to the pics of the girl not the gaskets and bolts and what not that we've seen all before

To be honest, she's way out of my league . I don't why she would fall for the quiet type of guy like myself. And I'm always splattered with oil and grease from cars and bikes. Better clean myself up! . I don't why she would fall for the quiet type of guy like myself. And I'm always splattered with oil and grease from cars and bikes. Better clean myself up!

Do not sell yourself short.I did this for way to long, think I've let some good ones get away by doing that. She probably sees the same thing in you that makes you one of my favorite people here.I was once told to just be yourself, that is who she likes.Have fun on your date and remember you deserve her.Originally posted by Flaming Chainsaws View PostTo be honest, she's way out of my league . Just be myself. Gotcha! Back to bike stuff

Here's the fuel hose. That ought to work right?

SS bolts on! What did I tell you guys? SS bolts, polished oil cap, and black casings look awesome!

The right side went very well but the left side.... No.

Under the sprocket cover, pieces were broken off. I was not able to put all of the bolts on because of that. There's more broken pieces that aren't shown.

Something is up with this sprocket as well... I can move it back and forth on the shaft there.

The locking tab washer is missing.

The stator cover was also busted and had broken bolts inside, not letting me screw my new SS bolts in all the way. I suppose every scar has a story. I think this engine came from a crashed bike . We'll see if it will run or not. I am expecting oil leaks from the stator cover because of the missing bolts. . We'll see if it will run or not. I toured Europe with a girl that we called "spanner eyes" because every time she looked at you your nuts tightened. Stunning she was, and an Australian too. "Wrench eyes" just doesn't sound the same.

You are doing a great job FC. Is it possible to build up a weld, then drill and tap some of those broken parts?

I don't have a welder. In fact I have no tools except for a crappy 20 piece Craftsman tool set from Lowe's. That's all I have . .

I don't know what to do about the stator cover. We'll see if oil leaks or not. The sprocket cover is OK. I was only able to put 3 bolts onto that and the rest had those broken pieces. But 3 bolts is enough to hold it up. And there's no oil to be leaking under there!

I am having a really hard time putting the carbs on. Tried WD40, heating them up, etc. Damn... Must mean that I need new carb boots. I think they were $15 each?

Stator cover got here today. Installed that and the new gasket. Put Rotella oil in. Installed carbs. Try to start it and no go. It turns over but will not run.

There are four things an engine needs to run. Spark, fuel, compression, and sufficient cranking speed.

Spark is there but kinda weak. Battery measures 12.79v sitting there and 11.09v while cranking and headlight on.

Fuel... The sparkplugs are wet with fuel so I'd say that there is fuel. And yes, I did leave it on prime for a min or two.

Compression is awesome on all 4.

Cranks like a beast as well.

So..... I will try to clean the electrical contacts. See if that does anything for spark. I may have to clean the carbs too except I cannot afford carb dip right now. And maybe it won't run because there are no air filters for the carbs???Last edited by Guest; 07-11-2011, 08:43 PM.

I've never tried to run a GS without a airbox(I hate pods)but everthing I've read here says that they need something on the carbs to make them run.

Yeah, you're probably right. I had to go with pods just because I cannot find an airbox for my bike that's cheap and the carbs are already jetted for pods and a 4-1 exhaust.Originally posted by SVSooke View PostI've never tried to run a GS without a airbox(I hate pods)but everthing I've read here says that they need something on the carbs to make them run.

I'm not going to try to start it anymore until I get some filters!

If it's hitting 11.0 when cranking then I think you may still have a bad battery. I'm saying that because I watched mine go from 12.5 sitting with the key on to 11.9 cranking and it turned over but I wondered about it.

I forgot but did you buy that part new? If not, I'd get a good one that will fit and see what happensCowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace
