Nope... just because the gun has the capability doesn't mean I'm crazy enough to give a go at it.
Greg, I chose not to go the spray bomb route because I wanted the durability of 2K paints. I don't plan on ever having to repaint a single piece because of rust or paint durability issues. to me that means using an epoxy primer with 2K top coats. I certainly have nothing against anyone else's choice of materials or methods, it's just the route I've chosen. I could have just as easily had them powder coated.Comment

Greg, you and me both, these okes that twiddle knobs and set up spray guns, eish, as far as I am concerned, it is a dark art with its roots deep in some sorta hoodoo voodoo..... fancy fandangled spray bomb for me, point and push knob.

Hahahahahahahahaha now you're in for it Stan! I got edumacated from afar by certain messr's Dale and Larry... now you're gonna get it first hand! Lucky ba*&$%$!! Hahaha
Having done the whole deal now I can see times where both are good... but the 2K results are impressive even with crappy guns

No Pete, what is impressive was your perseverance towards the body work and painting your 450. I think 'many' would have chucked the whole thing in and paid someone else to finish it.
It still impresses me to this day.Comment

dry fitting to make sure everything will match up correctly. I had to tweak the chrome covers so they would retain the gasket properly. now all that's left is scrounge up the small washer that's missing, clean up the harness and paint the white letters then I can finish assembling them.

Those are really, really nice.

Steve, because of you and Greg, I've been able to pick the best looking pieces to rebuild them from. I think the only thing that's still original to the bike is the black housing and the gasket.
I'm rehabbing the wiring at the moment. out of seventeen illumination bulbs I've tested, six of them were good.Comment

Can't fix what never existed.
Both of those are listed as "CDI for '79 GS850".
First of all, none of the GS bikes even came with a "CDI". What some people (mistakenly) call a "CDI" is the ignitor, and, since the '79 model had points, it didn't even have that.
What those appear to be is the turn signal control unit, and yeah, it's a shame we can't fix them.

Cheers Dale, now you're embarrassing me
I just knew what I was in for if I didn't persevere... really didn't wanna start over from scratch!
Not sure if they're the same type but I still have all my stock bulbs here from the LED conversion if it helps... I seem to recall them all working last time they were in there...Steve, because of you and Greg, I've been able to pick the best looking pieces to rebuild them from.
