Wow! Loki great job! I picked up mine on the 14th and I am so excited you made it look easy everything you posted. I believe I have the same bike as you. My frame vin is gs1000-511573 motor vin is gs1000-118126. How do mine compare to yours? Eric (7981gs) frame number is 796 numbers before mine. And his is a 78 gs1000. My registration says mine is a 77.
Wow I have so many question for you and your build. You did an amazing job. Props to you. And in such a short amount of time! good job have fun!Comment

This is what it looked like when it was new.
What you have is a "Skunk" at least that's what we call them here, because of the white stripe in the indent and the black background.
They were great machines in their day, and still great bikes.

Wow that really does look like its it! And he gave me mirrors to go with it. Look like those. So what exactly does that mean I have. Year and model ? Does that make it a 77 78 gs1000 S or EComment

It's 78 GS1000EC,the last letter(C) is the year code for 78 and in most cases redundant.I don't know how it woks in Cali but might it have been registered late in 77?Comment

This is a '78 GS1000E, the only year the bike was produced with the indents and the first year of production for the GS1000. This one had about 500 miles on it when it was taken.

Thanks for the props, was a good build and the end result is a very quick and great ride. Nice E model you have there, my frame number is 106055 and it's a 78 plain ole early C model.
Any questions you have feel free to ask, be glad to help as it's all fresh in my head.
Just know I spent 420 hours working it to get it to this point, hope that helps in calculations.

I would love to share how much I spent $$$ wise, but on purpose I refused to keep track as it did not matter to me. If I had to venture a guess I would say north of 2000 bucks,Comment

Bike running great. If I have 1 complaint it would be the rear end, feels kinda squishy when I take turns smartly. Gonna pop for some new shocks here soon, maybe some Ohlins or YSS piggybacks.

Got a pair of the cheapo RFY shocks off ebay. Lower clevis is a throw away, to thin in all the wrong spots, gonna make up some new and try em out. 100 bux, the rest of the shock seems of decent fit and finish.Comment
