yes you need rubber boots on each piston, and the rubber ring on the inside of the caliper, and a new O ring on that right part of the caliper your showing

Bores look good, I would replace the pistons while you are ordering everything else. It will be good to know the brakes are done properly when your finished. Great work so far..

yup

one piston looks OK, the other 3 not so much, if those are holes/pits and if they are below the rubber seal, it could and probably will cause leaks

and as jwhelan65 said the bores look good...

Great stuff. I think I've seen rebuild kits which include the o-ring, piston boot and piston.

I just checked out your 1100 Bandit/GSXR thread - man that bike's looking good. Plus you make me want to throw everything but the bike out of my too-full and too-small garage!

Yeah, the last three pics are all from one piston - nasty bit of pitting! I think that piston was from the bore that had the rubber boot on.

Funny that it is in a worse condition than the other "naked" piston... The pitting is from below the o-ring so there goes another few pennies!

Thinking about paint now. Have found a uk supplier for this:



POR 15, which a few of you have recommended. Planning to use this for frame, mounts, bars, fork lowers, probably the wheels as well... Unless anyone has a better idea? It's a shame the Blackcote, which is UV resistant, is not also heat-resistant or I'd be using it on the engine as well. Will 950ml be enough for all that? I have no idea. They also sell it in a 450ml tin. Too little? Too much?

The larger one should be enough. I know someone here has used it and reported good results. It might have been Ed (Nessism).

I think you're right Billy, I hope he sees this and can confirm... I really wanted just to buy one can of this stuff and use it all over.

I can't afford to get it powder-coated but this POR 15 apparently flattens really well and is quite tough. The high-temp POR 15 is not UV-resistant but the UV-resistant stuff is not high temp! More pennies flowing away...

Have you considered having the frame powder coated. Frames are reasonable I had mine done for $150.00. They come back perfect ready to work on with no runs or headaches.

Like bike prices PC prices seem to vary wildly.I haven't checked locally but $500 seems to be what is asked.To rich for me.
