WANTED: info for source of fine-thread bolts

I did not see any metric sizing in the screw blanks, but you did give me another idea.

Why not get some longer M6 bolts from the hardware store, cut off the 1.0 pitch threads, then put on my own 0.5 pitch threads?

Might cost a buck or two per bolt/screw, but that's a LOT better than the $18-20 from the vendors.

That sounds like a plan, another option if you are making set screws is to purchase a piece of M6 drill rod. Grainger or mcmaster carr should have it pretty cheap. M6 is a pretty common size screw, I would think you could pick up a box of 25 or 50 screws from mcmaster carr pretty reasonably.

Drill rod is an option, but I would then have to find a way to fabricate a head that can have a tool used on it. Either a hex head, socket head, Phillips or even just a straight slot, but it needs to be larger than the body, as it needs to retain a tension spring. Straight drill rod will not work.

I should be able to source some M6 bolts locally that are long enough to cut off the threads and make my own.

Placed the order on 31 MAY, received it on 07 JUN.

Then I discovered that I had ordered the wrong size.

No problem, the correct size is now ordered.

the part number you mentioned earlier for the correct screws come as a set of 3, for 9euro's. which i think works out to about $11.67.

i am sure i am reading it right as a set (of 3) but i may well be wrong.......again...

They might be OK for "hard to find" bolts, but what I am looking for is apparently in the "impossible to find" category.

I just did a search for "M5 x 0.5" at Fastenal. Came up with a few items. One die, several dowel pins. The die costs $131.
