I have to say that this bike has a certain X factor that I dig. That it was saved from the junkyard adds to it.Originally posted by Sam 78 GS750 View Postsigpic

Seriously thank you guys! The progress seems to be speeding up the closer i get to completion, and the more exciting it gets.
Tomorrow ill probably bring my soldering iron home from work and finish up the lighting harness ans tie it into the handle bar switch that just came in today. I need to make a seat for it too.. maybe that'll happen this weekend too. Although it'll be getting a propper seat later on. Also im almost positive that my roommate threw away the little black lines with the red numbers for the gear indicator, so if i cant find it soon ill need to buy one from someone.

17" radials came along in 1987 on the GSXR's, after the air cooled GS models had been phased out.Originally posted by thebrandonbeezy View PostI want a 17 in the front but the fact that its as wide as the stock rear makes it ride funky. Were there any gs 17s for the front?
Pre-87? Do you mean pre-97?Originally posted by Buffalo Bill View PostI'm on katriders.com too. The pre 87 Kats use a 3" wide wheel that takes a 110/70-17.

Did you have do modify the katana header to fit the gs? Just the header, I am sure the mid and muffler would require tweaking...

I cut the katana ends off and tig welded the gs ends on. Ill take a picture when i change the oil again soon. Mid pipe fit perfectly unmodified and the muffler actually bolted to the factory muffler mount on the gs frame with the fzr factory bracket. The pipe diameter was 1/16 larger on the fzr pipe so i had to cut the end of the fzr mid pipe and but it up against the end of the Yoshimura mid pipe. Very very simple install. On these bikes seems like the acronym kiss works best keep it simple stupid. Using what i had laying around has turned out to work very nicely with this bike.Originally posted by dbarale View PostDid you have do modify the katana header to fit the gs? I didnt really take any pictures of the harness because i dread that kinda stuff and needed to concentrate so as not to half ass it. But i did notice last night that if i wiggled the handlebars the gear indicator lights would flicker and i did take pictures of that because i was mighty proud of what i did haha

Now im no professional with the soldering iron, but it held and works flawlessly. Only problem now is that i think that the tank sender got messed up in the fire. When i tested before the fire it read almost perfect now it gets stuck at just above e with a full tank. Ill be investigating this over the next few days.

The cool part is that the gs factory header has a smaller tube inside of the chrome tube. The kat header pipes fit snugly inbetween these, and really makes the install easyOriginally posted by dbarale View PostDid you have do modify the katana header to fit the gs?
