Why do people molest CX500's so much? I mean, they were crap to start with, so why make them worse?
            Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

            Past:
            VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....

Beautiful peace of work. But somebody rode it and by the looks of the front tire rode it the way it is supposed to ridden.

They're pretty decent little engines overall. Trouble is, they generally started out uglier than a warthog's ass, so they seem to make a regular canvas for aesthetic modifications.

I've ridden a few in my time and I cant say I ever found them very appealing. Maybe if you wanted something that didn't scare you with gobs of power they might appeal, but then again, there's a bunch of smaller bikes that fit that bill without being so revoltingly ugly.

They're cheap, plentiful, and look cool when done right. I always thought the look of a 60's Moto Guzzi GP bike with the half fairing would look sweet

I rode one for a few weeks, then a driver in a truck born in 1917 turned left in front of me. Head on into the grill up and over. I grazed the hood of truck flipped over the drivers side into the dirt. As I was laying there on the side of the road, I watched him drive back n forth over the CX. When he finally stopped doing that, he got out and told me "I'm supposed to yield", when in fact he was supposed to. Happened less than a mile from home, like they say. It was an ugly bike, but that motor was really not that bad.

That bike in the picture above would be awesome for long distance rain riding or a cross country tour.
                          GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES

The CX series has seen some truly cool bikes, from the two turbos to the really lovely CX650E.

Saw a white one (CX650E) leaving UBC campus as I was riding in yesterday.

My brother had the dark gray 650E in '84, and I loved it. It exhibited some shaft torque, but was an absolutely lovely bike for touring. Very stable and torquey, could barely feel the engine at 65mph, but oh my, was it heavy! Would've killed for a turbo years ago.

                              Now that XR69...yeah
