Why do people molest CX500's so much? I mean, they were crap to start with, so why make them worse?Current:

They're pretty decent little engines overall. Trouble is, they generally started out uglier than a warthog's ass, so they seem to make a regular canvas for aesthetic modifications."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

I've ridden a few in my time and I cant say I ever found them very appealing. Maybe if you wanted something that didn't scare you with gobs of power they might appeal, but then again, there's a bunch of smaller bikes that fit that bill without being so revoltingly ugly.Current:

I rode one for a few weeks, then a driver in a truck born in 1917 turned left in front of me. Head on into the grill up and over. I grazed the hood of truck flipped over the drivers side into the dirt. As I was laying there on the side of the road, I watched him drive back n forth over the CX. When he finally stopped doing that, he got out and told me "I'm supposed to yield", when in fact he was supposed to. Happened less than a mile from home, like they say. It was an ugly bike, but that motor was really not that bad.
That bike in the picture above would be awesome for long distance rain riding or a cross country tour.GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ESComment

The CX series has seen some truly cool bikes, from the two turbos to the really lovely CX650E.

Saw a white one (CX650E) leaving UBC campus as I was riding in yesterday.
My brother had the dark gray 650E in '84, and I loved it. It exhibited some shaft torque, but was an absolutely lovely bike for touring. Very stable and torquey, could barely feel the engine at 65mph, but oh my, was it heavy! Would've killed for a turbo years ago.
Now that XR69...yeah'83 GS650G
'83 GS550es (didn't like the colours in the 80's, but they've grown on me)Comment
