I made a very inexpensive modification to my GS1000 petcock. First off, the basic info came from this old thread http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ad.php?t=85178
It is no longer vacuum operated, but I am OK with that until I can save up some money to buy and OEM petcock.
Here is what I did in a few basic steps:
1. See the attached picture as to how I filled the curved part of the valve with JB weld. This turns PRI to OFF. ON and RES function as before. Sand to make a smooth surface.
2. I removed the back of the petcock and took out the rubber diaphram. I put a couple pieces of gasket material on each side to seal off the back. Don't forget to use gasket sealant!
3. Plug vacuum line on petcock, and cap the vacuum line by the carb.
4. Label PRI as OFF, and add a note by the key to "turn off fuel" (OK, a bit of adult ADHD in me so I need the reminder.)
No puddles of gas in the garage, total cost of about $10 if you don't have any JB weld or gasket material around.
If anyone has any improvements on this, I would love to hear them.
Cheers,
Lyle
And I wanted to make sure, since the diaphram is old and the o-ring shrivelled, that fuel would dribble out.
