Need to replace tires, recommendations?
I need to buy some tires for my Aluminum Spokes for my GS1000. When it comes to motorcycle tires, I know nothing so I must turn to you guys. Ive searched and found some good info but I was hoping that some of you might know of some good deals online right now. Looking for some performance tires that would work with tubes (ASSuming I need to run tubes since they are spokes)

Avon RoadRiders, unless you're cheap.
If you're cheap, the Shinko 230 Tour Masters are winning lots of friends.
Make sure you get new tubes and rim strips, too.
A few excellent sources:
America's trusted online source to shop the best discounted Motorcycle, UTV, ATV, Side by Side, and 4 Wheeler aftermarket tires, gear, parts and accessories.
Make sure you're prepared to mount your new internet tires yourself -- very few shops will mount tires you bought elsewhere.
Since you're dealing with tubed tires, it would be an excellent idea to get some experienced help the first time around. Or buy a couple of extra tubes.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

I just replaced my rear tire. The front was in great shape and was a Kenda Kruz, but they do not make the size I need for the rear, so I went with the Kenda K637 Sport Challenger series. Did not cost a lot and so far it seems to perform quite nicely (just over 1000 km). The size on mine is a 130/90 - 17, by the way. I went through the dealer, but I did find an on-line source in Canada (where I am) that ships out of BC. His prices seem quite good. I paid more to the dealer, but I probably would have paid about the same by the time shipping was factored in.

I'm cheap and bought some 230's for my most recent project bike. They are a belted tire and V rated which are two nice features. I haven't ridden them enough to have a proper opinion about grip and durability but so far they get a thumbs up from me.Ed

If your CHEAP !!!!I'm not Cheap just a smart shopper.... LOL Shinkos and I went with the even Cheaper ones (712"s) and again I Love them !!!
And as for being cheap I still haven't seen any sidewall cracking on my shinko's !!! You can't say that about the Avon's and anyway don't they sell makeup or somthing. Just kidding guys.... You can pick up a Front/Rear pretty darn cheap on E-bay.

I just put Shinkos on my 650 for $94 shipped (both tires). I mount and balance my own so a set of tires for under $100 is great. The old front was from 03 and the rear was from 04 so age was the factor. I don't ride the gs that hard. I have a VFR for that and put PilotRoad 2 s on it for $300 a set.

Recommendations?
Note: I'm only vouging for the Shinko 230's not the cheaper 712's. Those are not V rated and I'll defer to others for feedback on those.Last edited by Guest; 07-19-2010, 11:06 AM.

Of course this subject comes up all the time, it is the most replaced item on all bikes.
I have run Contis, Metzlers, Dunlops, etc.
The current Avon Roadriders have a great feel, they play well with rain grooves, and I could not be more pleased.
Best of luck.

I've had favorable experiences with:
Bridgestone Battlax BT-45V
Pirelli Sport Demon
Dunlop GT-501 Arrowmax
I really like the feel of the BT-45 and Sport Demon.
GT-501 is alright, but just doesn't...seem...as confidence-inspiring as the other two.
And they seem to wear quickly as well.
I currently have the GT-501 on the rear of my '84 Ninja 900.
When it's gone (soon), it will be replaced with a Sport Demon.
