Don't know if anyone has tried an 80-series tire (sucessfully), but it will probably better than a bald tire until you can get a proper tire on there.

Just in case you have not been shopping yet, you can get a Shinko 230 Tour Master for the rear for $71.99 and the same tire for the front for $57.99.

Quite a few of us are running that tire and like it a lot.

I ran a Conti Go 130/80-17 last fall and into this summer on my 82 850G. It made a larger amount of vibration on the highway (engine vibration) and seemed to actually make about 350 to 400 more rpm at 60 and beyond. The shorter tire did seem to corner rather well on tight Black Hills roads. Somewhat harsher in bumpy stuff....predictable info here.
I have a new 90 series 230 back there now and life is good.

It's not ideal, but you won't die.

ok got the tire, its a bridgestone, the story was (which is true now that i remember)

he had a flat in the proccess of moving (over 100 miles away) went to a shop an this was the only tire he could afford so he had it put on..got to the destination an had it changed to a 190...(suzuki 600)..dont ask how a 130 fit on the bike...

but tire is in great shape, still soft..no cracks etc etc..

its just gonna be a winter tire till i can get a 230 shinko

this tire will see 80% town riding and the rest highway...

IS your rim tubeless ? I think that would be the deciding factor

honestly it looks better too...i may run a 100 80 in the front too
