    Rear Brake Pad "SPRING"

    For those familiar with this awkward setup/design. The GS650G rear brake pads/shims have a spring (more like a wire, see part #9 on fiche) that is pressed onto the top of the pad/shim. I don't really see the point of this spring and I don't remember exactly how it was installed. So, I'm wondering if I even need to reinstall the springs.If I should, do the ends of the spring go under the pad pins? The shop manual has no mention of these stupid little wires.

    yep, they should locate under the pins. they are not absolutely necessary but they stop the pads from rattling in the caliper.
    1978 GS1085.

      They are easy to install once you grok it a bit.

        They're anti-rattle springs. Common on many car brakes too.

        It's best to put them back.
