Anything new in brake pads?

It's been a long time since I bought brake pads for the GS850, but the time is at hand, and the stash is empty.

What y'all using?

Of course, the old reliables are the EBC FA51 ($30 per caliper) and the Vesrah VD-322 ($17 per caliper on the Brazilian River, which is pretty good).

Vesrah also has sintered pads, the VD-322/2JL ($30-ish per caliper). Haven't tried them.

I've tried "Bikemaster", "Tusk" and other crappy Chinese house brands (Volar, Pyramid, Muskrat, etc.) and been very, very disappointed. I don't like brake pads that try to kill me when it rains. So let's not go there.

My GS is currently wearing a set of sintered Ferodo Platinum pads -- I don't think they're available any more. They work great, but the last set I got was years ago, and the package was covered in a thick layer of shop dust when I got it.

I'm not all that concerned about rotor wear -- I have a few good sets stashed.

Thoughts?

I've been running with the EBC FA51-V semi sintered. Working fine so far.

On my 850G I am using SBS Ceramic 533HF in front and SBS Ceramic 512H.HF for rear brake. I am happy with their performance, but have never used EBC, so I do not know how they will compare.

When I do it has to be a brand I recognise and has been around for a while.
I really should go and check them.

I know the standard EBC pads work great. I'll give these red semi-sintered pads a try. Didn't really know they existed. The LargeRiverInBrazil web site had a good price -- for some reason all the reasonably priced fleaBay sellers had just one set.

Just got back from the GS rally in Missouri and really put the bike to the test.

I'm quite happy with the EBC red semi-sintered brake pads -- excellent bite and power, very linear, and so far they seem gentler on the rotors than the fully sintered Ferodo pads I had -- no metal dust visible, anyway. I've only been in the rain a couple of times, but they worked perfectly well in the wet.

Of course, I have no idea yet how long they'll last, but then again I sorta don't care.
