what did you wrench on today??

Saltymonk's twin pot brake conversion for single brake bikes?

Same Kawasaki calipers, with an even bigger Honda disc.
Don't know how well it works, I have no Kawsaki banjo bolt!

You must report back how well they work Tom!

I went through the measurements a while back with Dan and it looks like that will work on the 450E/S forks as well, so it still sits in the back of my mind as a possible upgrade.

Took the engine down to the base gasket searching for what was causing issues. Found a few "kiss marks" on the pistons and the valves. 3of 4 intake valves were stuck open. 3 of 4 pistons had marks. hummmm.

Put new brakes on my Ranger FX4 cause I promised the seller I would. Pick up my "new" car this weekend! Looking forward to saving ~$600 a month on fuel and payments. I gotta stop driving so much.

Pulled off the power steering pump, alternator, AC compressor, and fuel line from the Jeep today. Started loosening the bolts to the fuel rail but the rear bolt on the passenger side wouldn't budge even with liquid wrench so I'll wait on that until I pull the engine out. All I have left now is to remove the starter and then work on unbolting the transmission and engine mounts.

And I had an unfortunate oops moment tonight when I dropped the flashlight into a bucket of antifreeze. I didn't feel like digging through it so I'll wait until I drain the fluid and just buy a new one since it cost a grand total of $2 at Harbor Freight.

Ran Suzie Q for a while today and found out that with the high flow gears for the oil pump, she is putting out more that 20lbs oil pressure. I also found out that the oil pressure sensor gasket needs replacing, leaks like a sieve. Now to finish the wiring.

Also got my little CL70 puddle jumper going today and rode it around a bit.
It needs a few things but should be fun.

....my back mainly. But I did do some yard cleanup, and scrapped some electric motors, and came away with enough to buy a battery.....at long last.

Nice flagstone there Dorkburger. Up here in Ottawa, Canada it's been a long winter, rain all this week and cold temperatures. Got the bike out several times though in the last few weeks.

Thanks guys. Ironically the stone was a relatively economical way to replace the makeshift deck we put up a few years ago. Pavers were out of the question moneywise. A quick Craigslist search turned up a pool installer looking to purge his yard of leftover materials, but as usual it involved borrowing a trailer and much manual labor. Still a lot of wofk left to do. Steve, i can post pics when its done....im hoping to be nearly complete this weekend....And put my new battery in the GS.

First time doing some electrolysis rust removal. Non motorcycle related item....but practice for the future.

MMM bubbly!

Did an RR conversion on SuzieQ and fixed the oil leak at the pressure valve, and connected the electrics.

Yet more fiddling with my ignition, I think it's cursed!

On Friday on the way to work the left cylinder stopped firing again for about a minute... just long enough for me to curse it, slam the throttle open in first to get some momentum in the traffic, and then for it to start firing just as I was upshifting as fast I could to second gear not to lose the momentum... almost did my first wheelstand! That would've been entertaining for those around me...

Talking to Todd at work (the fella on the Beemer who rides with us occasionally), he was wondering if it was my left coil this time instead of my left Dynatek module. I'm thinking surely I can't have this much trouble with Dynatek ignitions when everyone else finds them rock solid?

The symptoms were the same as when I replaced it the other week... left cylinder doesn't spark and the tacho on the Acewell stops working.

The Acewell tacho is fired off the negative side of the coil primary direct from the Dynatek, so it will stop if there's a wiring issue, if the Dynatek fails, if the coil loses power, or if the coil primary goes open circuit.

So yesterday I swapped the coils only, everything else including tacho lead, plug lead, plugs, etc. stayed the same. If the issue comes back and changes side, it's definitely the coil!

I also added a two pin plug from the coil so if it happens again I can pull over and easily use a test light without taking the tank off to see if the coil has power.

While I had the tank off and temporary tank in place, figured I'd balance the carbs as I haven't done that for ages.

That's as close as I got it before running out of time and patience...

Went to fit a replacement used but good stator on the second GS and found I'd been sent a 550 item, with the rubber grommet too far down the harness.
Oh well, some splicing/heatshrinking/potting beckons tomorrow...

That is beautiful.
To my eye the random colours and shapes are so much nicer than the cut stone and solid colour.
I used to do quite a bit of it so i know how much work is involved.

Put up a fence around the little veggie garden. Got the kids over so might as well put them to work.

I reconditioned and rebuilt my front brake calipers, the previous owner had worn the brake pads down to the metal! Fortunately when I bought it from him he also provided a spare set of front and rear wheels, so I also changed out the front wheel as those disks where smooth and still well within factory tolerance. Saved me $300 for a set of new front disk :)

Tomorrow I'll bleed the breaks and go for a ride, weather permitting.

Next problem to be solved is why the heck does my battery keep draining if I don't ride for about 5 days!!!

Suzie Q is all tuned up now, synced the carbs and set those needles that you are not supposed to mess with. Have some investigation to do...no turn signals, and break fluid flush as well as new fork seals.
