    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

I would be surprised if the flatslides aren't heavier as I've always found them to be "weightier" in my hands than their CV counterparts. But the scale will tell. Regardless of the weight I'd switch them over because I feel that your end result shouldn't be all about weight, but how you enjoy...

    Revision of homemade electric diagram

Who Dat? As I already mentioned it's quite unclear (and therefor debated) wether the FH012 is a shunt- or series- R/R, but it's definitely better than whatever was on the bike stock so I'll be content with that. Also, thank you for the clarification on the R/R. Life got in the way of me...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Haven't been on the forum for over half a year and it was quite a treat to read up on the project as well as seeing it's still going in 2025. Happy new year's, mate! and best of luck keeping the tally below 200kg.

    Revision of homemade electric diagram

https://ibb.co/4MgKX5D In the link above you can see I highlighted the circuit starting from the r/r. The red wire going to the ignition switch does seem to be unfused. However, when that wire leaves the switch again as an orange wire, we can see #1 goes to the NO relay and #2 goes to the RNC...

    Revision of homemade electric diagram

I'll do my best to explain, but to make it easier to understand I'll make it brief and as such less technically true. So if any engineer comes across this bit of information, don't shoot me for not mentioning the real flow of electrons, importance of magnetism or including circuits exclusively...

I absolutely love and loathe how electrical work makes everybody feel :glee:

    Revision of homemade electric diagram

In your drawing the r/r is unfused so if anything should happen, it'll damage the battery (or worse). I more or less copied the original diagram on how to hook up the r/r and even though that diagram has it's own set of flaws, I believe the setup is equal to most UJM. Of course I could just...

    Revision of homemade electric diagram

I used an online tool called draw.io but I can't recommend it. It's quite the hassle to line everything up nicely but it's free however and as you can see, it gets the job done (one way or another). For your electrical question I'll do my best to answer, as I am also no expert by any means...

    Revision of homemade electric diagram

I'm a tool :hopelessness: I hosted the picture somewhere else, should be good now. As for the inline image: that's the best I could make of it using the forum's software. Mind you: practically all the labels are in Dutch, but you should understand most of it nonetheless.

    Revision of homemade electric diagram

Hi guys, I haven't had all the time I wanted because if that were true I'd be riding my ass off instead of opening this thread. However life happens to us all thus here we are and since I haven't the time yet to actually start working on the bike, I might as well ask for opinions of...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

I'm sure you're not pleased with the added weight, but the continuation of this thread is not something I regret. I love how it makes me feel I could also fabricate OEM looking brackets and what not from mere scrap.

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Due to the holidays and such I had not visited the thread in several weeks, but I'm glad to see you came so close to your desired weight reduction. Maybe lay off the beers a bit and the total weight of bike+rider could still hit "minus 50kg" hahaha. It's crazy when you think about it; this big...

Agree 100% with what steve murdoch said. It's clear that this is a passion project.

I'm thoroughly excited to see the end result, but at the same time I'm not in a hurry to see it either because I'm enjoying the process ;) Those Nitron shocks look the mutt's nuts btw.

    Different seats on GS models

My "79 does indeed hinge to one side as opposed to lifting up and down. But when it latches, it still wiggles all over the place so I'll have to get that sorted. Exactly. She's got a sewing machine that was inherited from my grandmother, so you can imagine. Might be a Singer, I'm not sure.
