If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Brett, I had that Seca out for a 25 mile test ride today, it's a screamer. If you ever have a chance to get another, do it. The Seca engine is a little over square, (65x56.4mm) and makes a wicked wa wa sound. The bike seems to have a nice low center of gravity too. I got it dependable now, I've started to build the superstructure for a half fairing, and am just waiting for spring so I can repaint it.
The seats' a little slippery, any idea on how to make it sticky?
Well I just got home with an '81 550L or TX, the choke knob is in the center of the steering stem, and it has square sport mirrors, like a TX, but the side panels have a big L on them. Who knows what's original.
It just needs a carb clean up to make it run, after that just plenty of cleaning, buffing and polishing. The left muffler is off color, so that will have to be replaced, and as usual the down pipes are off color too.
I'm planning on a cafe racer conversion for this bike, all fabrication, no plastic, and no money. I may even paint the frame. I want it to be a refined, good looking bike, not the typical, mean looking, street fighter POS.
The 550 with 50 HP, has a 9 to 1 power to weight ratio. That matches a standard corvette. It has a top speed of 110mph. I can live well and have fun, inside those limitations. This should make a great, joy ride bike.
Brett, I got to bother you again because, I know you have both these bikes. I've seen some GS550's and 750's (8 valves), on Craigslist, I've read some reviews. I would like the lighter bike, but how would you describe the engine power, and handling of the two? Thanks.
Brett, that may be so of all sport bikes, however as the population ages, they may become the new classic bikes. Myself, and you too are collecting the superbikes of 25-30 years ago. What would you predict will be called classic bikes in 5 years? The GSX-R's GSXF's and Ninja's date from '84-85.
Brett, I'm looking around for a bike that I can invest in now, for later resale, so I'm looking at bikes I know something about. At this time, I see some GSX-R1100's for sale, but I have doubts that such an extremely fast bike would be easy to sell, because few people could handle it, or afford to insure it.
    What do you think?
That 750E looks fantastic after the buffing job, it's those red stripes that really Pop out of the black. Well now you got me into asking questions again, like: Did you use an electric buffer?, and, How much money will it take to replace those valves? I saw a Ninja for sale with bent valves, from over reving the bike I presume. I figured it would cost $250-300.
Thanks Brett, good answers. The Michigan DMV made no mention of untitled vehicles, it seems you have to have at least a salvage title. I'll have to learn more, before I think I can title a parts bike.
    Hey Brett,
I see some parts bikes with no title, that can be rebuilt, can I get a new title for one of those?
    Thanks, Bill
There's just some surface rust on the frame corners near the foot peg. I plan to retouch that ASAP. I'm reading up on painting, (How To Paint Your Car on a Budget, by Pat Ganahl), and planning on getting equipment to repaint this bike, and my 1100G next summer. The frame looks shiny now, taking the bike apart to polish it, seems too much. This bike will be a daily rider, never a collector's piece.
Took the XJ on a 2 mile test ride today, around the neighborhood, COOL, 'til the right caliper clamped down on my fun.
Made a list of work to do, R&R: petcock, fork seals, right caliper, gear oil, set float levels, (gas dripping from airbox), sync carbs, and new battery.
Not so bad, not at all.

Hey Brett! I just noticed, you've just had a birthday too. Happy Birthday! -Cliff
I'm following a post on XJBikes about opening the alternator cover, taking out the Alt., to access the starter clutch through another, inner hatch. Through that you can just barely get to the $3 worth of tired springs to be changed, that will fix that little problem. This work table will make it easyer. I can't afford to insure another bike this year, so no rush.
Hey Brett, go to my page, and have a look at my new DIY work table. Let me know what you think/

hey griffin didnt mean to interupt i just need some help on my bike
Cool. It'll be interesting to see how things progress for you.

My main project this winter is to take my wife's 550 down to the frame, and do a complete clean/polish, replace/retorque every bolt, and replace all the connectors on the wiring harness so it's ready to go this spring.
