A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Setscrew valve adjustments

I have been on and off this forum for over 20 years. I want to know which year the gs bikes changed from shims to setscrew locknut valve adjustment. I will buy a 750,850, 1000 or 1100 depending on that. Was it 82 and newer?

    Loaded question gs or cb

I didnt choose the 650 cb. It was practically free and had a locked up engine. There was no reason for honda to even make the 650. Gs bikes in my opinion are superior to all the other ujms. I remember a few years ago z1 started carrying some parts. I hope they still are. Certain bikes like the...

how do you install a new harness. 79 850 g

I have been here on this forum 20 years, but i have not owned gs bikes most of that time. I am aware of many links here, and cliff's site, and nessisms helpful tutorials, but its not the same as actually doing it. The picture of this disassembled 1100 is my kind of project. but give me wiring...

new bikes, your opinion on current engine configuration trends

my comparison the the 56,000 dollar ultra classic is this. for 56k you expect a longlife engine, seldom if ever requiring repair.routine maintenance should suffice. the milwaukee 8 nd the evo arethe only good harley engines in my opinion. so to be comfortably seated, minimal vibration, eas of...

new bikes, your opinion on current engine configuration trends

there are so many cool bikes by every .manufacturer nowdays. The big 4 finally decided to stop trying to beat harley in the v twin game. the parallel twin reminds me of when I first started riding in 1972. I rode a new yamaha 350 r5c. a fun parallel twin 2 stroke kickstart only. It was a...

    79 850 g, no keys

I have a clymer manual. the functionality of this 79 is unknown. there re no keys. I wanted to put a key in, turn it on, see if the ignition circuit is complete, then the start circuit. I am going to do the usual plugs out, oil in the plug holes, turn the motor manually with a wrench. But in...

    79 850 g- motor shot?

i let a friend take my 1100, he got it running after fixig enough wiring to get it to start. I could not have done that.He took the airbox off my 850 parts bike and made it fit the 1100. Even though the carbs are 32 and 36 mm from one to the other. It wasnt hard. But now if I get the 850...

    79 850 g- motor shot?

this saturday, 6/9/24, I will get the bike back into my yard, then I will start investigating. I appreciate all the input. Normally I would pull all the plugs, put a tbsp of atf down each plug hole, put a wrench on the crank bolt and slowly try to turn the motor. I had one that seemed locked up...

    79 850 g- motor shot?

It was sitting outside, no tree, no carport. But yes the carbs and plugs are on it and in it. The vin is so old it was pre 17 digit, so it has not been on the road or registered in more than 20 years. This idea sounds crazy, but if I get the engine running and can not register it I might try to...
