    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

IMG_0128.jpegHey guys, I've been rebuilding my carburetors to locate a fuel leak on my '82 GS650G. Needless to say I found it (see image). does anyone have an extra carb body for sale? or does anyone have any recommendations for swapping carbs from stock?
 
Uh chuck, look at the picture again. Fuel won't just pour out all the time, but won't it leak pretty dang bad, especially if on the side stand? That's the outer edge of the left carb.
 
The lip serves 2 purposes. First it holds and centers the gasket so ypu dont have to hold it lined up and try to install a bowl. Second it lines up the bowls.
The gasket is PINCHED BETWEEN the bodys flat surface ( with the raised area running around it ) and the bowls flat surface. The lip has nothing to do with sealing a gasket. That little chip means nothing UNLESS the flat area on the body is also compromised.
 
Totally agree, but that little lip isn't very deep. That chip, hunk, or hole seems, to me, way deeper than the little lip and pretty deep into the gasket surface... Hopefully I'm wrong.
 
The sealing surface seems to be ok, but the chip is definietly close.

From the pictures, it looks more like carb #4, than #1.

When you say "Left carb", is that the left carb AS YOU ARE SITTING ON THE BIKE, or the left as you are looking back at the engine from the front wheel?

All references to direction should be made as if you are sitting on the bike, ready to ride. The clutch is on the LEFT side, the throttle is on the RIGHT.

Is your "Left carb" under the clutch lever or the throttle? :unsure:

Unless you need the bike for daily transportation, I wouldn't run that carb body. Find a replacement. As mentioned by Steve, you need to be specific about what exact carb you need, since all four are different. The GS550, 650 750, and 850 all used BS32 carbs, they are not exactly the same, though. Differences like the pressed-in air jets, and throttle butterfly vary from model to model. In a pinch, one of these other carbs can be used, but it's best if you can find a real deal 650 carb body. You might want to post in the Wanted To Buy forum. Some member may have just what you are looking for...
 
HA HA... That carb body is perfectly fine. If they made them without the lip you have the same dam thing!!!!!!! Its not oem "perfect" but lets not play the sky is falling game either.
