A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ed, I bought the 1150. Are you serious about the wheels? Do you need the front end assembly also? Call me at 714-356-7845 & let me know. If so, I will give you dibs on it since you asked first. Ray
Shorter cables are nice but not strictly necessary. My 850 has a 1000S clutch cable and a 550M throttle cable. Both are an improvement but again, not required.

If I go to the lower bars do I have to replace cables or can I get by with corefully re-routing...any experience in this department?
Thanks for your kind words kcolton. The bars on my 850 are Bikemaster Daytona bars. Less than $20 at various places. Great bargain.

Hello from Cedar Rapids, IA! Ive seen your mint-looking '82 GS850G; I just bought a '79 GS850G and hope to clean it up and update it mechanically.I will post some pictures as soon as I get it to my house and remove the Vetter Windjammer fairing. Are the handlebars on your 850 stock or if not what are they?

    Actually, never mind - I found it! :) I'm buying a guy's 1100 pipes...

Yes, yes, and yes :) ALL of the 8v heads (and i think the 16 valve heads except for the GS700?? but im not possitive) from 750 UP have the same head port spacing. So conceiveably, you can use a 750 pipe on an 1100G, and vice verce. The only thing that is different on the Vance and Hines pipes is the location of the rear mount. Now, honestly, you could even fab a bracket that DID NOT require welding, by using the existing mount on the bike, and some flat bar stock, and some bolts. Its not as tough as you are thinking it probably is sir :)

Hey there - I remember you had mentioned that there was some cross-compatibility between GS850s through GS1100s in terms of exhaust headers. I just wanted to double check that we had actually talked about that and I didn't dream it...:)

    Hi,
You posted on a discussion that it is important to get a direct ground between the R/R and battery. I am fairly mechanically inclined (structural engineer), but am new to motorcycle maintenance. What exactly is an R/R, and which wire would I ground to the battery negative terminal? Thanks!

Hey, Brother. When you voted for the rally, you voted to be at Yosemite only. Is that still your plan? You might have said already in the thread, but i didn't want to search the pages for it. Let me know. :) Thanks!Bruce

A few of us here who rather not get involved for fear of retaliation just want you to be aware that we were disgusted by how you and your clan treated one member who stated the obvious - that being a response to a seller's post was bs. We will come together to state same and go about our merry ways staying clear of certain people. Oh and we read your string with him too that was referenced. You were at him non-stop. I can't say of any us appreciate his words but under fire from so many I don't know that I would do any better.
