DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

To all who have been reading this thread: As of a couple days ago, without notice, Photobucket decided to cut-off it's 3rd party image hosting unless you subscribe for $39.95 per month. Thus, all of the embedded images in this thread will no longer automatically appear. The photos can still...

Now that my 1978 GS1000 is done (http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?224534-Progress!!!-1978-GS1000E-Restoration-Performance-Rebuild), I decided to finally get the Ducati running. She's been sitting in my garage for 2 years, picked her up for $500 from a friend. IMG_1067 by...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Update, 6/25 I am happy to report that dropping the pilot air jet from .8 to a .7 (richer) cured the sneezing from 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. I have the pumpers set to start at 1/4 throttle and stop at 3/4 throttle - as of the last test ride a couple days ago, she runs great and the dead spot when I...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

I'm getting the carbs dialed in right now - had an off-idle running lean issue that was corrected 95% by a bigger pilot jet and I'm hoping a slightly smaller pilot air jet will correct the remaining lean condition from 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. I may have to install a bigger needle jet at some...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Just looked up Win racing - that's literally 10min from where I live. Once I get the engine broken in and the carbs dialed in a bit better, I will investigate doing a few dyno pulls to get my AFR better adjusted and to squeeze as much power out of this beast as possible!

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

It did - every time I go out I push the bike a bit harder, then stop, then check for leaks/loose bolts/problems, and then continue again. Next ride will be out on the highway so I can open the throttle a bit more ;)

I need to research a shop with a dyno out by me (Aurora, IL) - that would be the best way to tune this beast. If the exhaust had a bung in it for an O2 sensor, I'd contemplate using a wideband monitor to tune it...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Update, 5/27 Installed a #20 pilot jet and set the pilot fuel screw to 1/4 turn. Checked all of the float heights and set them to a hair under 18mm (spec is 17mm +-1mm) Enabled the accelerator pumps and have them coming on at just over 1/4 throttle and ending at 3/4 throttle. Replaced all of...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Well, I think I just made my first minor mis-step - I have my pilot fuel screws set at 2 turns out. According to the documentation on the RS series from Mikuni, the adjustment range is from 1/4 to 1/2 turn, no more. See page 2 or 5 http://www.mikuni.com/pdf/rs_app_parts_lists.pdf Without...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Thanks Steve - the plan for this weekend is to pull the carbs, check all the float heights, check the needles/seats for gunk, and re-enable the accelerator pumps. I'm debating replacing the needles with viton-tipped ones, as I have access to an entire assortment of them in different sizes/lengths.

Thanks again for all of the replies - random question: does anybody know if the stock needles in the RS carbs are viton tipped?
