DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Looks like a calfab swingarm to me - they're nice, but it's not possible to retain the center stand with that style of bracing. Unfortunately, I've hit a level of "ffing done" with my modded swingarm. It doesn't work, and without a major engineering change, I don't think it will ever work. At...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Update: New swingarm installed Front/rear brakes are bled, functional, and leak free Found some clamps that I like to secure the rear brakeline - a more elegant solution than a tab that bends over and pinches the line, see photos... IMG_2154 by Anthony Monteleone, on Flickr IMG_2155 by...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Rudy, I thought about the GS1100E swingarm - only problem is that on some GS1000 frames, the frame loops that hold the rear footpegs may interfere with the sides of the aluminum swingarm (due to it being a smidge beefier/wider). At this point in the game, I wanted to go with a sure thing...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

It may not seem like a big deal, but moving the sprockets outward adds other complications, such as the chain making contact with one of the tabs that holds the chain guard. The width of the chain isn't the biggest issue here - the bottom part of the chain crosses underneath the bracing on its...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Thanks a bunch - my only concern at this point is the money I dumped into the swingarm modifications. If it can't be corrected in a reasonable amount of time, I'm afraid of getting stuck with one very expensive paperweight...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

On a happier note - she's almost there! Rebuilt front master cylinder - used VHT satin black epoxy paint and gently cured in oven at 170deg (to not melt the sightglass). Used a K&L rebuild kit with a new piston. IMG_2122 by Anthony Monteleone, on Flickr IMG_2122 by Anthony Monteleone, on...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Folks, I apologize for the lack of updates in the past few weeks - the bike should have been completely finished by now. I was making tons of progress until I ran into a significant issue with the modified rear swingarm. Although this problem is *not* insurmountable, it is without a doubt...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

I need a favor from someone: Can anyone snap a photo of the rear disc as it sits inside the rear caliper - i.e. is it perfectly centered or is it offset to one side or the other just a smidge. Thanks!

    GS1000 fuel cap gasket/seal - anyone found a replacement?

Yes, I carefully drilled the roll pins and installed one size larger. I actually already have a set of new keys - when I bought the bike, it had no keys. So, I had a locksmith cut a set of new keys for me based on the key # which was stamped on the gas cap. So, in this instance, I'll opt to...

    GS1000 fuel cap gasket/seal - anyone found a replacement?

Thank you - when the new cap arrives I will go down this road. A month or so ago, I had to buy a new used ignition switch for my restoration and I was able to move the wafers around and only file one a smidge to get the lock to work perfectly...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Progress, 7/10 Bad news item #1: I bought a pair of used calipers a couple years ago to use with Salty's brake upgrade - when I took them apart, the pistons were in mediocre condition and the bores/seal grooves were very questionable. Instead of powdercoating them, I painted them, so if the...
