DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    85 GS550es Kerker 4 into 1 Jetting

First thing I would do is remove the shim... as you might be transitioning into the thinner part of the needle to quick... to fast on a fatter main, it may cause a bit too much air or gas as you probably have that covered with the 2 up jet. That's why it dissapears past 1/2 throttle. if it's...

    Why won?t my bike start

So true. Before cleaning I was loosing 1.0- 0.7v going to coils at dirty off/run switch, after cleaning size of spark was much greater, Big differnce, short time, cheap... Also sugguest taking apart the starter and giving it a good cleaning, If any oily mist has found it's way in there, then...

Picked up a Triumph Trophy 1200 today

How does a cltch basket nut get loose? Was the bendy washer thing that holds the nut in place still there? (was it "unbent"?) I remember the add said it was the "#3 connecting rod" thrown or blown or somesuch... do you know what led the guy to decide that #3 was blown? Was it a combination...

    Sync issues, erratic idle

Safety drain, cool... did not know that. Is there any other venting for the tank? How much gas is in the tank? Thinking about this after looking at your post again: It ran well on a fuel bottle with a plugged vacuume line Ran poorly on tank with vacuum line attached Perhaps that is a good...

    Sync issues, erratic idle

By what methodology are you adjusting your mixture screws? Is it just arbitrary partial turns for all four together or, are you working each carb to just back from high idle? Have you checked the vent hoses? Two ff the carbs plus one off the fuel level sender... Venting issues can do strange things

what did you wrench on today??

4 on the floor & flat 6... the car weighs more than I can fathom. Stopping it requires anticipation. It's fun but (I still prefer a bike) Looks like I'm doing a carb clean and rebuild on the twin rochesters next week... Also had a 1930 Pontiac in this past weekend hunting down a loose...

    Hours to split case?

Donor motor would be easier, faster and probably cheaper... motor is coming out anyway, that's half the battle...just say'n. Then you can take your time rebuilding the orriginal one.

    Carb issue

Perhaps the needle & seat were replaced with aftermarket parts that are not apropriatly sized. I recently found a carb that was "malfunctioning after a rebuild" had one needle that was 1.2mm shorter that the other three... this caused the float to hang once in a while up because when the...

Top end noise \ weird idle?

Your bike is gorgeous and sounds pretty good for not having done your valve adjust, sync and tune. As for your clutch cable.... There is a transitional distance change in every bend, radius of bend and the movement of the bars that was acounted for, in relation to routing. Once you get it in...

    '80 GS550 Idle Issues

Ok... "full tear down and soak", even if done correctly and even if o-rings were replaced doesn't change the fact that you can't acheive a steady idle. The rest of the forensic investigation will fill itself in as you fix it. Best case, your mixture screws need to be turned in to lean out the...

    '80 GS550 Idle Issues

If I understand you, the bike was in a running state before winter, then after a carb clean & change in jets… it began to behave erratically? This is possibly a direct cause-and-effectrelationship. Did the shop return your old jets? Swapping the original jets back in for the new ones makes...
