All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Time for a Mini Volt Meter?GDMFr!!!

I bought a volt meter for my bike a while back I'm just not sure where to put it on a stock GS where it won't look weird.

I usually find out at the end of the day in the parking lot at work.

    GS450T Value?

It looks like its in great shape, so that will help somewhat with the price. What will bring down the price a little is that it's not really collectible and it's under 500cc. And the rusty headers aren't helping. Your target demographic is probably someone who just got their license and wants a...

    My third Suzuki: 1979 GS850G

Well, I did some research and if I Do It Right and buy every gasket and o-ring, the cost of the carb swap comes to right around $300, putting it in the cost-prohibitive category. If I pare it down to just the bare minimums (base gaskets, head gaskets, copper washers, exhaust gaskets), I'm still...

    Total novice

Check out the mega-welcome in my signature, it's the gateway to everything you ever wanted to know about these bikes. Definitely check out LOTO's thread, one of the best restorations I've seen here.

Who knew it would be so difficult

I hear that often but I'm not sure I believe it... my experience is that this is when _all_ the bikes show up on CL, both at good prices and crazy. I've purchased two of my three bikes at the start of the riding season. The first one was a steal... an '81 GS750E, mint condition, less than 10k...

    Gel Battery

There's no reason a LiFePo4 battery couldn't work, if it had the appropriate buffering/charging/protection circuitry. The problem seems to be that no one makes one that comes with all of that _and_ lasts any longer than an AGM lead acid battery. And of course they are way more expensive.

    1980 GS1100LT Cleanup

What a great thread! That bike is starting to look like a work of art. Glad to hear it's just about ready to hit the road. Spray the terminals with electronic contact cleaner and wipe them clean. Use compressed air or q-tip for the female connections. DeoxIT is widely regarded as the best...

    My third Suzuki: 1979 GS850G

Things I've fixed so far: * new side cover grommets * broken tach cable (the forked bit came uncrimped from the cable, I re-crimped it. It's working for now but if it doesn't hold, I have two extra cables...) So I've been riding the bike to work and there are two things that are starting to...

    My third Suzuki: 1979 GS850G

Surprisingly enough, it's rockin' the factory R/R. And just as surprising, it actually still works. But I'm not going to chance it, one of the items on my todo list is to swap it out for a new SH775 that I already have kicking around the parts bin. I wouldn't mind a 1000G at some point, I know...

    My third Suzuki: 1979 GS850G

Yep, it will be well cared for and well ridden. I'm in Ypsi. If you ever come out this way, make it a Tuesday evening, that's when all the bikes show up to hang out downtown. I've met a couple of GSR forum members already this way. :)

New member who is new to GS ownership

Welcome to the forum. You have a great father in law if he gave you a GS650G for free. I wouldn't mind one of those myself one day. What size rear tire is currently on it?

old oil - low miles, but sat in the bike for 18mo. HELP OMG WHATDOIDO

18 months is no big deal at all, mileage is much more important. Oil doesn't really "go bad" just from sitting like gas does. I mean at some point it probably breaks down but we're talking many years if not decades. I would totally run that oil all of this season if not the next as well...

    My third Suzuki: 1979 GS850G

(And also my third motorcycle. I can't seem to stay away from these old 'zooks!) Hi all. I've been scarce for the last couple of years around here, mostly because motorcycling took a back seat (if you'll pardon the expression) to a few of my other hobbies and my trusty L model continued to be...

    Honda 87 CBR600F Hurricane, project

Not to hijack a great project thread, but... That sucks... and it's why I always make the buyer sign the title and a bill of sale when I sell a vehicle. I ask to see their driver's license to verify that the name and address matches up with what they wrote, and then I take a picture of both...

    GPS Speedometer-anyone have one?

I'm willing to bet that if it works at all, it probably won't work very well all the time or won't work for as long as you like. The build quality almost certainly will leave something to be desired. Says its waterproof but the 4x2 pin header on the back begs to differ. I would probably buy a...

    Bikemaster Platinum II AGM Battery

I believe I have the same AGM battery in my bike for a while now and it's still going strong despite a couple of dumb near-total discharge incidents that were my fault. Hope it holds on a little longer.

    Get the real SH775

When buying an R/R whether used or new, make sure the picture shows the SH775AA or BA as shown in comment #10. Otherwise, it's a knock-off or fake. Glad I picked up a spare back when they were relatively cheap.
