A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Coil swap 650 to 850?

Sweet. Let's hope new plugs solve the problem. It is still unlikely that both coils have died. Oops. missed that. Okay. At least it's narrowed down to the coils/plugs/wires. What's nice about the points ignition is it's direct to coils instead of through ignitor. One less thing to have fail...

    Coil swap 650 to 850?

Okay. I didn't see your reply before my last post. So far so good. The test light should have flickered on and off while you bumped the starter. Did it? Are you checking for spark by laying the plugs on the head? If the plugs are blackened at all they might be insulated by the buildup and...

    Gsx750 cafe/street bike

That's really sharp. I love the transformation. It looks like it's begging to be thrown around some esses.

850 loses power at high speed after heated up.

Hi Kevin, I think what you said about the way it runs seems accurate considering what you drained out. There is a likelihood of some junk coming from the drain bolt/gasket but yours looks like sediment from higher up. Glad to hear the tank looks good. When you do your carb cleaning, take...

    1980 GS550L Rebuild Thread

Whoa! There's definitely no need to lay on the tank to cut wind resistance with that thing in front of you. :p Nice shop by the way.

    Coil swap 650 to 850?

The parts list shows you indeed do have a signal generator and ignitor box. Try the test I gave you. If the test light doesn't glow do these tests from BikeCliff's website to find out what the problem is. They are fairly easy...

    Coil swap 650 to 850?

Take your test light and probe it into the non orange/white wire (the ground wire) at the coil connector while plugged in. I was able to put it into the back side of the connector so as not to damage insulation. Clip the wire of the light to a good ground. Turn your key on. Turn your engine...

850 loses power at high speed after heated up.

Redfenix, From here that thing sounds awful and leads me to believe it's carbs or bad fuel. Your wait on rebuilding the carburetors until wintertime might not come true but before worrying too much I have a few questions: What does the inside of your tank look like? How old is the gas? The...

First Street Bike Project - with a few questions

You said it well GK. Sci, a summer ride would be nice for you, I know, but pictures from your first ride against colorful trees would be good too. Your patience is admirable.

Ok. Here goes my 1984 Katana.

Superb!! It looks awesome and menacing at the same time. Watch that thing approach in the rear view mirror, quickly read Katana, then see it lift off and fly over you. :D

    83 gs550E regulator/rectifier wires melted

Glad you eliminated those poor connections. There are probably others in the harness that need attention too. Duaneage is absolutely correct about those darn connectors. I don't trust them. Your non-blinking turn signals should work now if the voltage is high enough. What is the voltage at...

850 loses power at high speed after heated up.

I have a Visu-Filter on my fuel-injection grade hose. No problems. GS550marc, I replaced my petcock with a new Suzuki one. You should be golden there as long as you cleaned the filter on it before reassembling your tank. Redfenix: Like Dogma said, wait unless you're lean. Do a couple of...

    1980 GS550L Rebuild Thread

Could have been a charging circuit or ignition short. Hopefully going through all of the connections that affect the operation of the bike will cure your problem. It could be one of them is creating too much resistance. Replace any questionable connector. Awesome!!!! You can scratch the...

    1980 GS550L Rebuild Thread

Okay. I missed the fact of new coils. Cool. Well, with your carbs clean and set properly, and airbox/intake all sealed up nicely it makes me think there is an intermittent short in wiring. When your bike dies, do your dash lights or headlight go dim or flicker? Did you clear up that...

    1980 GS550L Rebuild Thread

Hi gs550marc, I read through some of your older posts and see your frustrations but it looks like you'll be good in no time. I have a few questions and suggestions though: How many miles have you put on this thing and how many tanks of gas have you burned through? When I was running regular...

    brake bleeding again...

Are the calipers on their respective sides and the bleeders on top? It seems like you have done everything right and this is just a possibility that comes to mind. From what I have seen on vehicles/bikes they can be mounted on the wrong side with the only problem being the bleeder screw on the...

New (to me) GS 1100 Ignition issues

I still wouldn't think ignition switch for your connection problem and this really sounds like what it is. This is more likely a source of voltage drop due to dirty connections. If you said playing with the fuse box got it to start then take it off and check. Throw in some new fuses for good...

New (to me) GS 1100 Ignition issues

That is a really sweet ride. Be careful. Your engine is twice the size of mine and this thing zips along pretty good. This was also my first bike.
