DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Help with auxiliary lights wiring

Very true, but has nothing to do with the fact that there won't be a headlight relay on the bike.
  2. D

Will 1000G exhaust fit on 850G?

Pipe spacing is no problem, just the mounting bolts.

    Help with auxiliary lights wiring

To the best of my (limited) knowledge, no GS ever left the factory with a headlight relay.

Will 1000G exhaust fit on 850G?

Physically, yes. HOWEVER, ... the bolt spacing on the collars is different by several millimeters. It might be possible to enlarge the holes to allow narrower spacing. GL pipes might also bolt up, but might interfere with rear footpegs and sidestand landing locations.

    Dim taillight Q?

Nice to see that you (might) have your problem solved, but for anyone else using this for a reference, do a quick voltage check as part of your troubleshooting process. No not the usual type, one that isolates parts of the system. I don't know the details on the wiring layout on your 1100E...

    Still not right, FFS.

Along with uncapping the vent ports, be sure to install proper tubing on them and route the tubes to a non-turbulent area. Not sure about factory routing on your bike, but some of the later bikes would route the tubes over the back of the airbox or to a spot under the seat. STILL air gives...

    Aftermarket Exhaust Options for GS1000G?

Nice to see that you have already accomplished your installation, but for those reading this for reference in the future, let me say (from personal experience) that the 850G and 1000G pipes are very similar, but the mounting bolts at the collars are ever-so-slightly differently spaced. I did...

    Headlight switch disconnect from stator

The stator has three sections, or "phases". Two of them are connected directly to the R/R (your SH775), the wire for the third one takes a detour to a second set of contacts on the headlight switch. When you turn the light OFF, it opens a connenction from the battery to the light, but it...

Master Cylinder sight glass rebuild? 1982 GS650GLX

I have seen several reports of cutting/filing a disk of Lexan plastic, then using epoxy to set it in place. Seems to work well enough.

    OEM Fairing

That fairing is a Calafia. Possibly the Shadow model. They were made for Suzuki and sold as a dealer option. Small saddlebags were also available. The 850 started as a '79 model, most likely introduced in late '78. The '79s only had "GS850" on the side covers. All later years had "GS850G"...

Will this fit an 83 GS850?

I seem to remember a discussion a few years ago about the 4-valve 750s being shorter than the 2-valve 850s. "Shorter" being the distance from the exhaust ports to the oil pan. Your pipe will likely fit, but might hang a bit lower than you like.

    GS550 Valve Clearances

As usual, Nessism is absolutely correct. Unfortunate that someone who has been here almost five years did not recognize that.
  13. D

Do I always have to use OEM parts?

Look at the part number that Nessism posted. The first couple of digits after the hyphen are the inside diameter, or 6.5. Over there, you are probably more likely to find actual 6.5mm ID hose, over here, we would probably settle for 1/4" hose and stretch it on.

Checking Valves for the first time.

It's good to have them checked at the first scheduled service (usually 600 miles), then maybe again at 3k, but it takes a few measurements to establish a trend. After you see that they are not changing, you can extend the interval. My bikes are all well over 50k, so I only check them once a...

Modern Exhaust Header on 80's Vintage GS

The closest thing to “modern” you are going to find would be a MAC, V&H or something similar that was designed for it.

    Starter clutch gear play

No. Looks like you will be pulling the rotor and clutch to replace the three screws. WARNING: pull them out together, then separate them SLOWLY. There should be 3 rollers, 3 pins and 3 springs. If not done slowly, parts will fly.

    Strange camshaft set???

I was able to enlarge the picture a bit, I agree, 20 pins. :encouragement:

    '82 GS650E Barn Project

Evidently you did not read post #3. Earlier, it sounded like it would turn over, but not fire. Now you say the starter is not catching or turning over. Please stick to one story at a time. Does the starter engage and turn the engine over? You can tell by the noise it makes.

    oil dipstick

If you look through the filler, you will see ... clutch. Stick anything into the hole you will have to bend around the clutch, making any attempt at an accurate measurement rather futile.

Correct Oil Pressure '78 GS 750

Have not consulted the manual recently, but that seems about right. On cold startup, you might see as high as 10 psi.
