I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Help with auxiliary lights wiring

Fandango

Forum Newbie
Hello there! I've recently bought a set of aux light to my beloved G650 GS Sertao. It came with it's own relay and fuse, and also a switch. I would like to get some help with the wiring, more specially, I want to connect the light switch after the headlight relay, so it can be turned on only, after the bike has ignition. Can anyone help me, which one is the headlight relay, or any point on the bike, which is only has power after ignition, and has some avaliable contacts? Photos would be appreciated. Thank you in advanve!

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure what a Sertao is. But if you list the year and model, someone may provide a wiring diagram. Sadly, the 650 diagrams previously linked on BikeCliffs Website are dead ends in the links on the archived site in my signature. The service manuals there do have wiring diagrams in them near the end. To my knowledge, there are no wires that are hot only after the bike is running. There are many that are hit only when the ignition key is on.

That said, many models have an extra 12v switched brown wire in the headlamp bucket not connected to anything. Ground to whatever is convenient. Black w/white stripe are grounds on all models. All other wire colors also tend to be the same across all years and models.

Tap into the headlight power wire and run your primary wire for the relay off that. It could only be turned on after the headlight is turned on (no wiring diagram needed)

To the best of my (limited) knowledge, no GS ever left the factory with a headlight relay.

It's a matter of how much power is flowing through whatever switch you're using. Big power requires a big switch, if you use a smaller switch the contacts inside the relay do the work of handling that larger power flow.
