A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    GS650 jetting and correcting vibration

Thanks Ed. This is helpful. I checked all of the engine bolts, so that was not the issue. While riding, the vibration was never enough to make my hands numb, but was enough so that my mirrors are useless when the engine is over 6000 RPM (Interstate speeds in 5th gear). Sounds like my going...

    GS650 jetting and correcting vibration

I have a question for the carb experts. I read over and over that its best to keep the original jets, but the PO trashed them when rebuilding the carbs. Is it worth the money to buy all the Mikuni jets that I can for these carbs? The replaced with cheap parts that I have include the main jets...

    GS650 jetting and correcting vibration

Thanks. Those are not included in the typical o-rings sold by cycleorings.com. I was fortunate that I ordered a set for my bike before he closed down earlier this year.

    GS650 jetting and correcting vibration

Yes, the valves are all in spec and I synced the carbs using a carb carbtune. The vibration got worse at higher rpms, not smoother. Could that have been from bad intake seals?

    New '82 GS650G - Winter Restoration

To do it, I removed the stock seat cover and cut just a bit of foam off the back of the seat. I then added foam to the front part to bring it level with the back. Last step was making a new seat cover. I saw your other post about your brakes and saw that you have a 650g. That seat wouldn't...

Is my brake master cylinder OEM?

This is all interesting. Your front master cylinder is identical to mine, but I have a gs650gl. One thing that I see often is that the 81 model year is different from the 82-83 model years for some parts for the gl. Maybe that true for your g?

    New '82 GS650G - Winter Restoration

I recently bought a gs650gl. Even a a tall guy (6'4"), I like the bike. I modified the seat to take out the "L" hump, giving it an ugly, but functional flat seat a hair shorter than the pillion portion. This allows me to plant my butt anywhere along its length and get a good riding position...

    GS650 jetting and correcting vibration

Hi all - I thought I had my GS650GL running well, but couldn't understand why bolts were loosening up with some items getting lost altogether. Took a while for me to realize (after reading about vibration on here as GS resources) that it was vibrating too much. I bought this bike in August...

    front end a bit shaky

I had a very similar issue with my 81 gs650gl. I regreased and then re tightened the bearings on the triple clamp (head tube?) and the problem went away. I also got advice from a suspension specialist (bellacorse the US dealer for Hagon shocks) to make sure the rear wheel is straight and both...

Sold my 1982 GS650g and missing it!

I bought a GS650GL this summer and love it (Rust-o-mod in projects forum). It's a great bike to cruise the back roads on because of its size. Big enough for my tall frame with a flattened seat. Best of all, enough power and nimble enough to have a lot of fun.

    Rust-o-ration or rust-o-mod - GS650GL

Finally finished up this project. Today's short list was replacing one of the rear wheel bearings, installing a new handlebar (slightly taller than the one that came with it, and putting on a pelican case as a top case. The third picture down shows the modified sissy bar. I used some heat to...

    Rust-o-ration or rust-o-mod - GS650GL

So, I didn't finish this up as quickly as I would have liked to. I was diagnosed with COVID a week ago (breakthrough infection - I had the pfizer vaccine) and got a bit sick. Glad I was vaccinated, otherwise I might have been in the hospital. After a bit of recovery, and to keep myself sane...

    atlaspowersports on ebay

I want to give this guy a big kudos. I purchased a used SH775 regulator/rectifier from him last week. When I installed it, I didn't hook it up to a battery and tested it. As many of you know, the r/r won't work when you do that. I double-checked my work the next day, and found that same result -...

New to bikes, changing brakes + pads

Check out Bikecliff's website. One of the best resources that I have found for lots of different things. I purchased my GS a week ago, and have consulted Bikecliff's site and this site daily. http://gsarchive.bwringer.com/

    Brake Neutral Switch Question

A WAG here, so ignore if I seem way off base. If you have an automatic then they may have installed the "neutral" switch on the brake instead of the clutch (as on my manual shifting bike). Based on the image that you showed from ebay, you should be able to either run a jumper wire between the...
